1 week out Complete Hysterectomy

I am exactly one week out from my complete abdominal hysterectomy. I did get to keep my ovaries. I have a few questions that maybe some of you can shed some light on for me. How long will my abdomen be numb? Did anyone else experience numbness anywhere else? This is a hard one to explain but let me put it this way, after I urinate it is numb when I wipe. I am guessing that all of these things are nerve related and feeling will return, I just think it is odd. I think that I am getting along considerably well, I can walk almost half a mile and not die from pain or exhaustion. I am sleeping at night. I had my staples removed yesterday, that made my abdomen feel a little less tight and I feel like I can stand a little taller now. My problem is this nagging fever. Anyone else experience that?

1 week out Complete Hysterectomy

Hello. From my experience with TAH/BSO, as well as prior surgeries to remove endo/dermoids, the numbess is a normal side effect of the surgery. As the nerves heal, you should get more feeling back. I, too, had issues with numbness "when wiping", but it does get better. I'm not sure why the numbness there, but maybe it's because of having a catheter, and your bladder is working on getting back to normal? Don't know. Also, re: the fever. I had a low grade fever from the time I left the hospital, up until about 4 weeks after surgery. The fever never went above 100.4. My dr. said that a low-grade fever is normal after this type of surgery, something about the body's "inflammatory response" to the surgery. If your fever is higher, or lasts, you may want to check with your dr. just to be sure what he/she thinks. I know that some ladies on this board had fevers after their surgery, and a few had bladder infections. I guess it all depends on how you are feeling, and whether you have any unusual pain as well. Your doctor will be able to tell you what he/she considers a low grade fever, or whether he/she thinks you should come in for any further testing. It sounds like for the most part, you are having a good recovery. I hope your recovery continues with no problems, and that you are feeling better in no time.

1 week out Complete Hysterectomy

Hello Cristy!!! I had it all removed. The area around my navel is still sore. I guess it is still bruised inside. I only had strips for closing my incision, which is still sore. When I get that feeling to go to the washroom for either, it seems to feel more urgent.. I too had that numb feeling as well, so I guess too that must be normal. Ah heck what is normal anymore?? Do try not to overdo it...the mind tells us we can do it, but it is our inside that we need to pay attention and I have to constantly remind myself of that... I did not have fever, but dizziness was crazy, then the cold after that!!!
Well I am sure u will get somes answers here, this site is so great to have!
