exercises 14 days post hysterectomy

I am on day 14 of post op I'm feeling pretty good all things considered tapering off of pain meds and moving over to viatmins & probiotics. I was curious if anyone knew about a timeline of when you can start with Kegal (sp?) Exercises or maybe gentle yoga poses to help strengthen the pelvic floor? Thanks!

Re: exercises

You need to check with your doc on this. Some docs want complete pelvic rest for six weeks, others don't.

In the meantime, walk, walk, walk.

Re: exercises

Walking, hydrate, rest & repeat throughout the day. Ask your Dr about any form of exercises for pelvic floor. Like Surprised has said, rest right now is probably best. Id imagine if you were to do that, thats a whole array of aches & pains bc everything is not healed yet. At the 6 week Dr appointment, after an exam your Dr will cover what restrictions are lifted & when.

Re: exercises

At 9 days post op, it's too soon for anything besides walking.

At 3 weeks post op, I was cleared for gentle, restorative yoga specifically for people recovering from abdominal surgery. I added one 15 minute session to my walking routine daily.

I was not cleared for any true pelvic floor exercises, like kegels, until 8 weeks post op. My doctor said it could damage healing internal stitches, cause inflammation, and increase pain.

The healing process is slow and long. Follow your doctor's instructions and don't do anything that could delay your healing!

Best wishes!

Re: exercises 14 days post hysterectomy

I'm so glad I've read this. I have found myself doing kegels thoughtlessly and having to intentionally stop. I didn't know it was so dangerous. Oh my!
