when does menopause start after total hysterectomy plus BSO?

Im scheduling a total hyster for Oct 15, the whole pain package gone. How fast do u start to experience the side effects of menopause? My gyno said she will start hormones in the hospital and wants me to do the minivelle patches 2x a week.

It can start right away or like in my case 2 weeks later. Everyone is different ..

I think it is different for everyone as to when symptoms start. I was put on progesterone after my surgery for 6 weeks. I haven't had insomnia, night sweats, or hot flashes. Some days, I have a dull headache. I don't know if it hasn't hit me yet or if this is how I will be. I'm almost 8 weeks post-op.

It does really depend on the individual, their age, and their particular situation. I would follow your doctor's advice and start right after surgery if that is what she wants. You are pretty young to be having this, which probably is why she is starting you so quick. I have heard of women you age having hot flashes in the recovery room!

For me, I had my surgery at age 46 so quite a bit older. I started on HRT about 3 months after my surgery. Surgical menopause just got too MISERABLE for me. If I was to do it over again, I would have started earlier.
