possible hyestercotmy this summer (pregnancy and children mentioned)

I came on here back in Nov, but thought I wouldn't be needing the hysterectomy, but now things maybe going to that direction.

I'm 30 and have 3 beautiful boys, so I have been so blessed w/ children. I also have terrible endometriosis. I had a lap in Nov where they also did a biop on my unterus (bleed for over a month and had thick linning). After only a few months, I had started back w/ terrible cramps and 5 week long periods. We tried 3 different bcp's, then high doses of progestrone, then emergency dnc, then lurpon, and I started bleeding again Saturday (2 1/2 weeks since last time). I'm going in on Thurs to talk to my dr about doing a full fertitlity work up, and if the outlook is not good, I will have one this summer. I'm somewhat at peace w/ it (b/c I can't stand the thought of living like this much longer) but the tought of closing my baby making chapter at 30 does make me sad. I know how lucky I am to have concieved at all, but I still think about baby names and look at baby clothes all the time. I loved being pregnant and would love to do it again.

OK, I'm finishe w/ my pitty party, thanks for letting vent.

(((ekcutshall)))

I am sorry you are needing to consider a hysterectomy, especially since you are young and may not have completed your family. My goes out to you as I was 25 when I had mine for endometriosis. I have two boys and thought I would be okay since I at least had been able to have them. Several years later, bam! Out of no where, it hit me that I couldn't have any more children!

It can be very hard for those of us who are younger to face this huge decision, especially when we have endometriosis. Yes, the hysterectomy will stop our bleeding issues and any pain related to the uterus, but it won't cure us of endometriosis and we could continue to deal with pain and endo issues down the road. In fact, some of us even require more surgery, post hysterectomy. It can be so frustrating!

I hope your appointment on Thursday goes well. Maybe your doctor will have some other options for you. For instance, have you ever tried an aromatase inhibitor? Some women are finding success with that treatment option.

Also, if you have never consulted with an endometriosis specialist, you might want to consider doing so prior to scheduling a hysterectomy. For one, the more skilled your surgeon, the better your chances that all the endometriosis will be removed, preventing future endometriosis issues.

You are also welcome to post any of your specific endometriosis questions and concerns in our Endometriosis Support forum!

Wishing you all the best for whatever your future holds for you!

Re: possible hyestercotmy this summer (pregnancy and children mentioned)

Thanks so much. I am seeing a woman's health specialist currently. I've also had more than one lap, so at this point, it's just trying to prevent another one, or take it out. They will probably leave my right ovary, so I do know there is a chance of more endo, but no more periods that last 4-6 weeks. I'm have such mixed emotions about all of this...
