Just started week 3 post op - did I blow it?!
Hi All, I am now beginning my 3rd week post-op and am affraid I may have done something harmful to my recovery. I had laboroscopic surgery through my belly button with 3 incissions. Because of this type of surgery and also because I alredy went through my menopause 17 years ago, it has really been a breeze. I had very little pain to speak of so I haven't really been very careful with the healing process. Now I read that I have approximately 100 stitches internally that have to be treated gently in order to heal, I'm afraid I did something stupid today. I cleaned out my upper closet and also my utility room and noticed quite a bit of discomfort in my tummy. I had just had a tummy tuck before my hysterectomy, so my tummy remained pretty flat, but now it doesn't feel so firm. I'm seeing my Dr. tomorrow for my follow up and I'm scared I've damaged something or will not get continue having my tummy this flat. It's beenn kind of a rotten day, starting off by watching an "Intervention" on TV about a person addicted to prescription drugs, and having to go into a rehabilitation center to get off her drugs, because she was misusing them, sleeping all the time and had 3 car crashes. Well, I've been on 6 mg Klonopin every day for about 15 years, have had 3 car crashes (2 totaled), but I have such high anxiety disorder I need the klonopin to be even somewhat calm about every little thing, and that doesn't really do the job either. Than I watched a program about AIDS. Approximately 10 years ago, I had been promiscuous. I've had two or three aids tests, and they've all turned out that I don't have it. Then on top of that, I overdid it again and am scared I may have done damage by overdoing it.
Just what are we supposed to do beginning at week 3 and not do? Thanks for listening to me go on and on, I feel lkind of panickky right now and don't have anyone to talk with. Thank you to all my "Sisters". bonniebolalnder

Not sure if you've "blown it" or not, but I understand about the feeling better part. I'm only 4 days out after a lavh and I feel "pretty good". Lots of gas pains still. I have to keep constantly reminding myself that it was major surgery and even tho i don't have the abdominal scars to remind me, i do have the internal. I'm having a hard time just doing nothing. I'm always busy, always on the go. I'm also a nurse and on my feet all the time. So right now I'm bored silly. I also watched intervention tonight on tv. and I also had an aids test done because of promiscuity in my single days. Test have been negative. One thing I try to do is just to think of now, this moment. Dont' worry about things that happened yesterday. You can't change them. Don't worry about things which may or may not happen tomorrow, its not here yet. Just think about now - today. As for what we're supposed to do or not do 3 weeks post op. I don't know. But I do know there are checklists on this website that will give you that information. The only thing that I know I'm supposed to do is rest and recover and thats what you need to do. Your closets and stuff will still be there once your recovered. I only know of two things my doc told me to definately do 1. no sex for six weeks... 2. no driving for 2 weeks once I've stopped taking my narcotic pain meds. Which I did yesterday. The rest he told me to leave to family and friends and to just take care of me for once. And even tho its hard at times, I have to listen to what my body is tellling me. Good luck on your appointment tomorrow and I'm sure things will turn out ok. And take the advice from the other hystersisters on this site and just take care of you. Good luck.
Cindy

I have no idea about the possiblity of overdoing yourself, I hope all goes well at the Dr's tomorrow. I do understand the panic though as I also have severe anxiety and take klonopin with a side of xanax when it gets so bad that the klonopin isn't working. I have found a method that has helped me to get to appointments and deal with panick attacks. The "watching your breathing" method does not help me (although it might help you), but distraction does indeed work. What you do is when you feel that panic, distract yourself. I have to do this driving (I get bad panic when driving). I am like a person with heavy ADD. I read the road signs, license plates, think to myself how many red cars are there right where I can safely look, how many trucks? I see a nice house up ahead...etc, It feels stupid, but it does help! I hope you are o.k. I too see the Dr tomorrow to make sure all is well.

Thank you so much for your good "common sense", "down to earth" tidbits. I know how right you are, I just get carried away in my imagination and drive myself crazy. Thanks, "My Sister"!! bonniebolander

Sweet Cindy, You make so much sense! I feel soothed and it also feels good to know someone else also has the crazy junk going on in our minds. I will definitely try your methods of distraction, I'll try anything. Wouldn't you think that after 10 years the AIDS Virus would have shown up by now?
I appreciate you so so very much "My Sister", we're not alone!

If you had an LSH, you may not have had as many stitches as you think. With LSH, most of the cutting would have been cauterized and not stitched. If you had a LAVH there would have been stitches to close the vaginal cuff.
As far as what you should/should not be doing at this point in your recovery, here's a link to the 3-4 weeks post op checkpoints:
https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/view_postop34.htm
If you are worried about any part of your recovery, if you experience any new pain, or if you simply want your fears erased, please call your doctor's office. You are very newly post op and I'm sure you doctor expects calls from recovering patients.
So....call your doctor just to make sure everything is ok, and no more cleaning out closets.
