Diabetic?

I know this is going to sound strange and all but I am not sure if I am diabetic. I was given a diabetic medicine to do 2 things stop cysts (didn't work) and to regulate my blood sugar. My blood sugar has tested high/low on occasion.

Now after my last lap I got a case of cellulittis. Was told this is common for diabetics. Remember I still haven't been officially diagnosed diabetic. I guess what I am wondering is are there precautions I should take? Is there any difference being diabetic as non diabetic?

The medicine even though it didnt work on my cyst I have continued to take. My blood sugar has stayed regular and I am losing wieght on it. Not record breaking amounts but about 3 or 4 lbs a month. It has 0 side effects for me so I am loathe to stop taking it but I am also concerned that maybe my doc and I are not doing something we are supposed to.

Any diabetics out there?

Diabetic?

Hi,

I am not a diabetic and not sure what precautions you need to take.

If you go to the top of the page and click on "Search" and type in diabetics, there are threads that may help you find what you are looking for.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery and glad you are here while you await your castle day.

Diabetic?

I am diabetic... one thing to be careful of is if you have to fast or do the liquid diet your sugars could drop too low... you def need to talk to your dr and bring it up at pre-op! Also diabetics tend to heal more slowly.
((hug)) find out about your situation as soon as you can!

Diabetic?

I read the past posts on PCOS and it seems pretty common to be a borderline diabetic on Metformin what I didn't know and no doc has said was that I have to stop taking this a week before or it can interfere with the anesthesia. Good thing I found this board. I am heading to PCP now to go over this.

Diabetic?

Hi there I have Type II Diabetes, had surgery on 4/22. They do say you heal slowly but I had no problems at all with blood sugar,
wishing you luck!

Diabetic?

I am also Type II diabetic and take metformin (glucophage) to control blood sugar. Ironically, my gynocologist alerted me to the problem originally. I've been told by the two endocrinologists I've had that there is no such thing anymore as "borderline" or "pre" diabetic. You either are or you're not...fasting blood sugar over 125 is cause for concern.

My endocrinologist sent a full report to my gyno with the state of my blood sugar control and a release to have surgery. He did say that I need to stop the glucophage a few days (like two) before surgery and can go back on it when I start to eat again. And, if blood sugar goes up in the hospital, they are to give me insulin. I have a pre-op visit with my doctor tomorrow morning and I want to know how does the hospital know how much insulin to give me???

Also concerned about stopping and starting glucophage. When I first started to take it - and when I've changed dosage - it makes me violently ill with stomach pain (just what I'll need!). The pain is in the upper abdomen and double over severe. Just one more thing to worry about...

Diabetic?

Ack sorry to hear the glucophage is so hard on you. I was hospitalized for strep throat awhile back and I had to have an insulin shot while I was there. I think they have a low standard like dose for people who do not take regular insulin.

Ishnalla -

That's good to know! If I find out anything different from my doctor in the morning I'll let you know.
