I have had abnormal bleeding and have gone for 2 DNC's in 12 months. My doctor said I have an enlarged uterus and a cyst on my ovary. She is having me go for a vaginal US in December. She mentioned hyster as a possibility. She isn't worried about the cycts. Is that normal? Also, my mom, who passed away from "unknown" causes had a hyster about 20 years ago. What questions do I need to ask? What trigger words do I need to know about? I am 38 and not looking to have more kids. Besdies the health issues, I teach and really can not have mood swings. I need to be level headed at all times!!I just need to become informed and need help searching through all the fog surrounding hysters

Hi (((ajnjerry)))

I'm sorry you are having abnormal bleeding despite your 2 D & C's. Some ovarian cysts result from normal functions of ovaries and commonly resolve on their own. Maybe that's what your doc was describing?

When I was exploring my options I really wanted to know the cause before I took action. Sometimes the reason just isn't clear though. I hope your ultrasound sheds some light on the problem for you so you can have an idea of what your options are for resolving it.

My older sister had excellent results with an endometrial ablation and my younger sister has had her bleeding controlled with Mirena. I ended up with a hyst, but I'm glad I tried other options first.

Here are some links that might help explain some options and help you decide whether hysterectomy is right for *you*. (I know the sea of info can be overwhelming.)
