LAVH on 3/25 scared

I'm 28 yrs old & found out Tuesday I need an LAVH. Chronic endom. , fibroids are culprits. Mainly it's the severe pain they cause each month but I don't know if I'm ready for all of this. I don't know anyone else my age who has undergone a hysterectomy. Luckily my ovaries are staying, cervix & uterus will be parting w/me. Has anyone else had this proceedure - how was it & how are you feeling? Any advice before my surgery would be great. I have a great doctor...most of my feelings are very emotional. I told my husband I feel like I'm 10years old again!! What a God send to find this site. Take care everyone!

LAVH on 3/25 scared

Well....I'm a wee bit older.....just turned 31. I am almost two weeks post-op LAVH and feeling great! I have been dealing with endo for many years now and I feel so much better already. I had the cervix, uterus, and left ovary removed. The surgery itself went smoothely, I went into the OR at 8:00am and was back in my room by 12:00. The pain afterwards was managable with pain meds and by the next day I was up and around walking. I went home after a 48 hours hospital stay.

This is a wonderful site....and I'm sure you will get tons of helpful advice and emotional support! Best of luck to you!

I wish I could give you a big hug, yes it can be very scary, but you will be fine, I'm sure. I had my uterus removed when I was 32, one ovary removed when I was 34, and my last ovary removed when I was 36 (10-24-01). This sight has been so informative and helpful. The ladies on this site are great! The best advice I can give you is to give it some time and just take care of yourself. I'm sure you will feel better in no time! Best wishes!

Hi Shelli

I had a TVH (no abdominal incision) on March 11 which, I have read, has a longer recover than a LAVH..and I am feeling great...and not as young as you. I also kept my ovaries...doctor was shocked...at age 48...but hey.. I am still using them.

Anyway. The wait is the worst part. The surgery went quick..and then... you get to be treated like a princess. This sight is a God send. The ladies in here have prepared me and encouraged me all along the way.
