Hospital Food!

My TAH is August 24. I have heard to expect only a liquid diet in the hospital. Bummer! Is this always the case? I am vegetarian so jello is not allowed! As always, food is a huge priority!

The food is inedible anyway, so you won't be missing much.

I wasn't hungry for over a week after my TAH, and I didn't get offered jello. I got water, tea, pop, broth(ask for veg) etc......

They brought my first meal to me right as I was ready to leave and told me I had to eat it and keep it down to get out. I don't remember being too concerned about the taste.

Kay

Please forgive my ignorance... Why can't a vegetarian have Jello? Are you a strictly vegetable vegetarian? You can't have fruit or meat or dairy products etc... ??

I've often wondered and when I saw your post I thought-Hey! A vegetarian I can ask!!!

Thanks, I know it's totally off the topic, but I'm curious.

That's all I could keep down in the hospital (jello) even though they sent regular meals on the second day. I would suggest taking your own snacks just to make sure if you ARE hungry you have something that is allowed by your diet.

I lost my appetite for months. Food just turned me way off. Having special dietary requirements is definitely something to mention at your pre-admission. Also, your doctor will probably need to put special orders in your chart.

I only had a clear liquid diet and was in the castle for 2 nights. I had apple juice, broth, tea, a suppliment drink (fruit flavored), and jello. I had a difficult time getting any of it down. I could only manage the tea and small sips of the other stuff.

I am glad you asked. Most people do not know that gelatin is made from animal parts. I won't go into any more detail. If you want to know more, type "gelatin is made from" into Google (make sure you include the quotes".

I hope you are doing well!
