Surgery next week?
Hello everyone. First, I would like to say thank you to everyone who has posted their insite. I have found so many items of interst that I am able to utilize. I am having an LAVH next Wednesday and am a little worried about the recovery. My doctor has told me that I should be back to work within 2-3 weeks. He is basing this on my past surgeries (3 for endo). I was able to be up and about the same day. I know how much different this will be (I think) and would just like a little insite as to what I might be missing. I have completely organized my house, my sister is flying in for the first 5 days and my two girlfriends are flying in for the following 5. I have a wonderful husband who will do his best, but we have a 2 month old and I am worried he might become frazzled if this recovery takes too long. He is disabled and I am normally the one who does the 'running around'. I would appreciate any advice anyone might have. Thank you, again.

Surgery next week?
Hi, I had an LAVH and will be at 5 weeks post-op tomorrow. I was told after the surgery that I could drive at one week. Well I was still on Vicodin till 2 weeks and I didn't feel like driving etc, due to pain in groin, abdominal area etc. I was only discharged with 1 week of Vicodin and had to call for a refill. After 2 weeks I was okay not taking it. My toughest time was sleeping at night and developing a UTI that was pretty bad. I really noticed an improvement with my stamnia around 3 1/2 to 4 weeks. I actually thought I could go back to work at 3 weeks but I wasn't ready. I decided at about 3 weeks to take the full 6 weeks for recovery. I have a 2 1/2 year old and he has been a challenge due to not being able to lift him etc. He was upset but now is used to our new routine. I still feel pain in my groin area when sittingfor long periods of time and can only take Tylenol due to I had a perforated ulcer in 2001 that required emergency surgery (they believe Ibuprofen may have caused it or Crohn's disease??). Anyway, I was told not to take Ibuprofen for pain. I return to work 3 days a week on Monday which will be 6 weeks post-op. I still get tired easily and try to rest when I can. I also found that my appetite was way off and I was lightheaded for 2 weeks either from after effects of the Vicodin or anesthesia or both. Good luck with your surgery and I hope you have smooth recovery.

Surgery next week?
I was back to work full time as a nurse practitioner after 4 weeks. I could have been back at 3 weeks, but it was Spring and I was enjoying the time off! My first day back included 6 hours in the OR followed by 4 hours of seeing patients!
I was expecting a difficult recovery and to be exhausted because of what I read here. I was surprised to find that I had little pain for only a couple days and that was easily managed. I was tired for the first week, but after that, my recovery was rapid and uncomplicated. I had an episiotomy (which is very unusual for a LAVH, but I've not had children and am configured rather small) so sitting was a bit uncomfortable, but that was all.
I was also up and about the same day of my surgery. I got out of bed about dinner time the night of my surgery and was up and walking the floor throughout the night. The following morning, I showered, got dressed, and went home, where I took care of myself alone, with occassional help from a woman who came in to vacuum and do the heavy cleaning. Other than that, I took care of things on my own. I think you might be surprised at how well you do. I wish you a speedy recovery!

Surgery next week?
I had my surgery as a LAVH. I was told the initial recovery period is still 6-8 weeks. Although the external incisions are smaller there is still plenty of internal work done. I recommend taking at least 6 weeks off if you can.

Surgery next week?
Hi, I noticed that we are having our Hyst. on the same day (next Wednesday) I think the recovery period is different with everyone. I am not going to make any plans for up to 8 weeks so that there is absolutely no pressure involved in recovery.
I hope your surgery (and mine) go well and uneventful.
Good Luck.
B.
