Any good experiences w/mesh (Monarc) for incontinence?
Had my pre-op today and asked about options for stress incontinence repair. TVH is scheduled for 10/29 and this is only my second meeting with the doc.
She recommended the Monarc procedure which uses the polypropelene mesh tape. I see lots of sisters here with mesh erosion, which makes me very leery of the procedure. Has anyone had a good experience with mesh? Or is the general feeling that this is something to avoid altogether?
I'm leaning toward getting the TVH done first and see if the incontinence resolves. It only happens when I sneeze or if I'm sick and have lots of coughing. I need to let the doc know what I want to do. She said she does lots of these w/o problems, 'tho I didn't know about erosion when I went in today. Please advise. Thanks.

Any good experiences w/mesh (Monarc) for incontinence?
A friend of mine had a urologist that did a collagen injection of sorts for the stress incontinence after her TAH. I have some issues on occasion, but have yet to talk to a urologist about my issues personally. I hope someone else has so better insights to give! Best of luck to you for your TVH!!

Any good experiences w/mesh (Monarc) for incontinence?
I didn't have a Monarc but I had the TVT which involved mesh.
It will be 6 weeks tomorrow after my op and so far so good.
I was diagnosed with stress incontinence after doing a urodynamics test. Although I wasn't incontinent prior to my surgery, my doc advised me that I had a masked incontinence due to my uterine prolapse, and once the uterus was removed during my hyster, I would be incontinent if nothing was done to fix it. So, I had the TVT sling done during my hyster.
Initially once the catheter was removed the day after my op, I had no conscious control over voiding. I would feel the urge to void but I couldn't voluntarily make it start, let alone stop it. It was as if something was disconnected between my brain and the muscle mechanisms that makes the whole voiding thing work. I would sit on the toilet and 'will' it to come and eventually it would, initially very weak and dribbly but it got stronger and stronger each day. Also I gained conscious control within a few days which was a relief because it was sort of scary not being in control over the voiding thing.
At first I had to go every half hour otherwise my bladder would sort of spasm and send shooting pain through my bladder and into my pelvis. But that soon turned to every hour, then every 2, then 4. Now at 6weeks after the op I can go as long as 8 hours over night and it's still ok. Occasionally I'll have shooting pains radiating from my 2 puncture sites on my pubic bone. They come without warning but thankfully go as quickly as they come, and are less frequent now and less intense.
I've had no issues with erosion as far as I'm aware, and I don't know what type of tape/mesh was used. I've had some lingering discharge but I also had an anterior and posterior repair as well, so maybe its coming from that. I had a vaginal swab done but am waiting for results at present.
I hope I was able to be helpful somewhat even though our procedure are different. Wishing you every success with your surgery.

Any good experiences w/mesh (Monarc) for incontinence?
Hi, I had a whole hester. & Mesh placed. I get pain the sensation of urinating after I have a drink of water or eating. Is this typical. I had my surgery on the 15th of Oct. I was sent home from the hospital with a pee-bag. I did not have the control of urinating & if I did it was a small & amt.
Will this pain eventually subside & will i have total control to urinate?
Nervous & annoyed.

Thanks for the input, Ladies-
I left a message for my gyno asking if she could do the repair w/out the mesh, using a ligament from my body or something like that. I've decided I'd rather do nothing than risk having a rejection to the mesh. I've got multiple chemical sensitivies and often have wierd reactions with unknown causes.
So, if she can't do the repair w/out the mesh, I'll hope for the best results after the hyster. It could be just the weight of the uterus on the bladder that is causing the stress incontinence, so maybe it will improve.
If not, I'd rather continue to cross my legs when I cough than risk having bigger problems down the road.
