Little over 1 wk post-ip...constipation problems..HELP

Hi Sherri! When I was released from the hospital, part of my RX was for Senakot+S. I took two tablets each night, and finally, maybe 3 days later, I had my first movement...I was so scared, but this product worked well, no pain. Had been feeling great, when a couple of days later I had pain after urinating. Called the nurses office and she said it might just be the PH in my urine. (My surgery was done in a city about 2 1/2 hours away, so not able to just stop by for a urine test.) Nurse suggested to drink Cranberry Juice and eat blueberries. OK. Drank tons of juice and ate lots of blueberries. Unfortunately, I fixed one problem and created another...I kept taking the Senakot...for the next 36 hours I felt like I had the worst stomach virus ever. Clean as a whistle. Stopped the Senakot and have continued with a glass or two of Cranberry Juice a day, and movements are soft and normal, and usually no more pain after urination. Hope all you feel better soon! When in doubt, always call your doctor or nurse!

Sherryl,
I too experienced exactly what you are experiencing. Not fun! But good news, it will pass literally and figuratively. Continue stool softeners and stay away from the problematic foods.
I was told by my PA that our pain meds unfortunately can produce constipation. Seems like a catch 22.
A bit of advise, when you do have that urge, bring in a small pillow to place on your abdomin push towards your abdomen when contracting. Somehow this felt better to me.
Hang in there.
