Re: Operating Room Questions
I didn't even see so much as see the operating room doors! the anesthesiologist gave me what they affectionately called the "margarita mix" and i'm such a light-weight when it comes to meds, i was sleeping within seconds. of course, a sleepless night and a 5am arrivaltime for a 7 am surgery might of helped! when i woke up i was already in my hospital room.

Re: Operating Room Questions
I was wide awake when I went into the OR looked around and saw everything..... I remember them telling me I was going to start feeling loopy in a minute and not to fight it. I kept saying, Im not tired, dont start yet...Im still not asleep....and thats all I remember. I did not wake up in the OR or in recovery, I was back in my room before I was awake. Dont even remember the trip to my room. Surgery ended at noon, and I didnt wake till almost 4 PM. And that was jsut long enough to look at the clock and see my husband standing over me and I was right back out.

Re: Operating Room Questions
I have had 14 operations, and in every one of them I have woken up in the recovery room. Usually the last thing I remember is the anaesthetist putting me to sleep with the meds in my IV, then the nurse waking me up in recovery, nothing in between. The anaesthetist will always reassure you though, so just tell them what you are concerned about.

Re: Operating Room Questions
I woke up in recovery room. I got a shot of happy juice before I was wheeled to the OR then in the OR I was given some oxygen in a mask and that is the last thing I remember. When i woke up i was no longrr intubated but i did have my catheter for 6 hours after i got to recovery. I just had my surgery yesterday so it is fresh in mind.

Re: Operating Room Questions
You will either wake up in recovery or not remember anything of recovery and wake up in your hospital room. You will never wake up in the OR. If you're anxious, tell them before surgery and they'll give you Verced or something similar just before taking you to the OR. With it, you will either not remember the OR at all, or will be so happy that you couldn't care less.
You'll be fine.

Re: Operating Room Questions
I haven't had the hyster yet, but had an ablation done in May. I remember being wheeled into the OR, getting on the table, then the nurse said "I'm gonna give you a little oxygen." and that was it! The oxygen was loaded. I woke up in recovery with another nurse standing by with morphine.
I had a previous surgery about 10 years ago, and this last time was the best! I am using the same team for the hyster, so I know I am in good hands.
Good luck Marscal!

Re: Operating Room Questions
I woke up in recovery next to a man who was moaning. Fortunately, I had no pain or nausea. I was glad when they moved me to my room. I thought the operating room was interesting. I would have liked to look around. I moved from the pre-op bed to the operating table and i was out.
Like others aboove mentioned, when you see the anesthesialogist, just ask your questions or mention your concerns. I asked for the patch behind the ear for nausea. I had a bad experience with anesthesia when I had the D & C and I really did not want to repeat performance. An added bonus--my anesthesialogist was good looking!

Re: Operating Room Questions
I woke up in my own room. That was comforting. I was also very worried about the surgery/recovery area and what it would be like to wake up. That is probably up to the surgeon. I would definitely ask though! I didn't have to feel bumps or see anything. They had my DH in the room too. One thing to add... I did have some pain when I woke up and I let them know about it. They told me that they didn't want that and immediately switched me from morphine to oxycodone. Life was good soon after. Evidently, I metabolize it too quickly so it wasn't effective for me. Don't be afraid to make requests!

Re: Operating Room Questions
I have always been interested in medical things - I remember looking around the OR when they wheeled me in, lol. I remember them switching me to the OR table, putting my arms out for the ivs, and that's about it! I don't remember even having an oxygen mask.
