Ablation Question
Is it AT ALL POSSIBLE to have an Endometrial Ablation performed when your uterus is FILLED with fibroids? (With NO prior procedure done ... like a D & C). Immediately after my supposed ablation I STILL had the same heavy bleeding I started with (I was hemorraging from the removal of an IUD) & 9 fibroids (one the size of a grapefruit, the other's are golf ball size). After I had this supposed ablation the Dr. told me it was UNSUCCESSFUL because my uterus was "twice it's normal size" (which he didn't realize) and the "netting" could only "burn" 1/2 of my uterus.
I'm beginning to believe he was lying to me, and that the ablation never occurred. Am I wrong in thinking an that an ablation can't occur inside a uterus FULL of fibroids? How could a netting even slightly expand????
I didn't know I had fibroids until AFTER the "ablation" when I went to a NEW DR. (to get a 2nd opinion about having a hysterectomy) and HE did an ultrasound. My old Dr. NEVER did an ultrasound prior to the ablation, he tried to do a CT Scan, but because of my heavy bleeding & adenomyosis, he said it was too difficult to see in there.
I need your thoughts!!!
THANKS SO MUCH (as always)!!!
~ Tammy

Re: Is there a Dr. in the house? (Ablation Question)
Sorry to report, but my doc said the only testing required prior to ablation is the endo biopsy.

Re: Ablation Question
I had an endo biopsy & vag u/s to determine where/how many fibroids I had. My doc thought only one was the culprit to my bleeding, tho I had many others.
I had a D&C and then an ablation on Tuesday.
The concerning fibroid was entirely hanging into the uterine cavity. So my doc removed that one then did the ablation. Because there was a small stalk of where the fibroid had been, and the cavity shape therefore a little irregular, she used the Thermachoice balloon method which can wrap itself around irregularities in the cavity better than the Novasure.
She did say that the other fibroids may still "misbehave" ie cause bleeding in the future. But hopefully this will stay my bleeding issues for 5+ years.

Re: Ablation Question
my Dr did not do any tests prior to my ablation but discovered I had small fibroids years before that. It stopped the bleeding but I ended up having a hysterectomy a year late due to undiagnosed pain that ended up being a tube that was black and andneymosis.

Re: Ablation Question
My ablation failed also. Due to adeno, endo, fibroids I should not have had it. My second doctor found I had these conditions and I had a hysterectomy. I wish I would have known before I went through with the ablation. My first doctor did not seem to know I had the conditions, I am not sure why because I had an ultrasound prior to ablation. I am glad I got a second opinion. I am happy I had the hysterectomy.

Re: Ablation Question
Thanks for your reply Abby (I love your name, it's always been one of my favorites!). It's a shame what we woman go through. He was my Dr. for 18 years, I had enormous faith in him. I (at the time) was in an emergency situation, and he gave me two options, and I took the lesser of two evils. Oh well. It's water under the bridge. I feel confident, today, (after a 3rd opinion, and finding a fantastic NEW OB/GYN) one week away from having my Hysterectomy, that I will (6 months from today) feel so good, that having that ablation (2 years ago) will never cross my mind again! I'll be having so much (bloody free) fun I won't care about it anymore!!! LOL!
Best Wishes, Tammy

Re: Ablation Question
WOW! It is really scarey to see that others are in the same position I am. I thought that I was the minority in that I had an ablation but now I a having severe pain. So, I am headed towards the hysterectomy at age 42. I really had alot of faith in my ob/gyn but after all of this, I don't know anymore.

Re: Ablation Question
Gbtesq ~
DON'T have faith in your OB/GYN, NOW. I felt the same way. I knew him for 19+ years. Our kids went to school together. Blah Blah Blah. I could really get DOWN about what I went through these past 2 years, from that surgery. BUT ... I'm not going to dwell. It ripped my heart out (seriously, many tears) to walk away from him (even though I felt he was at fault, I truly cared about him). MENTALLY, consider your search for another OB/GYN a "2nd" or "3rd" opinion. Tell your OB/GYN that (and they will approve). I even told the 2nd opinion that I wasn't sure if I could MAKE THE CHANGE, even though I knew I needed too. I stayed with my 2nd opinion (until my insurance company changed, and he was no longer on my plan). Then I ended up (in the end, having my hysterectomy) with my "3rd" opinion ... I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH THIS GROUP!!! I have spent 3x a week in that office, for the past 7 weeks (due to an infection ... long story) and they are wonderful! I don't even think about my 1st OB/GYN anymore! He's a memory. And, it's ALL GOOD! Best, Best Wishes!!!
