I am so sorry you are having such an emotional time. Our bodies have been through a lot and need time to heal and that's stressful. Maybe your doctor has some ideas on the emotional part. I hope you find some peace and are able to get through the sad times. ((Hugs))

Re: can't sleep .. always crying

Yes you can sleep on your side if it is more comfortable. I turned on my side that first night while still in the hospital. I just put a pillow under my belly to support it. The back pain is probably from the position we are put in for surgery. For me, pain pills didn't touch it but ice did. You can try a heating pad if you want - whichever brings better relief.

You ovaries may still be 'sleeping' which could make you so emotional. Also, being in pain does not help.

I'm sorry you are not feeling well. Sleep is important. Your ovaries may be temporarily not functioning well post op, causing the crying, but I'm sure the lack of sleep isn't helping. Break the problem down into smaller parts. Would your back feel better if you slept on your side? Have you tried heat or cold? Pain meds? You might try OTC sleep aids or talk to your Dr about some temporary meds or OK on the OTC's. Try body pillows or smaller pillows to support you on your side. I hope you feel better soon.

Like the others have said, what you're experiencing is completely normal at this stage in your recovery. Your body is still recovering from the stress of the surgery, you may be messed up from your pain medications, and your ovaries may have temporarily shut down; that should settle down within the next little while. As for your back pain, I get that too if I stay still for too long, so try to get up and move around every so often. I found that I was able to sleep on my side by my first night home, with a pillow supporting my belly; also, the incision by my left hip was a bit larger than the others, so I found I was more comfortable sleeping on my right side. As for the insomnia, that could also be affecting your mood; try keeping your bedroom temperature around 60-65 degrees, and ask your doctor about taking medication until things settle down. Sending you my warmest hugs, and hoping you feel better soon!

Re: 5 days post hysterectomy - can't sleep .. always crying

Ditto from me to what everyone is saying. I was a wreck, crying, my left hip was completely out after the surgery. I am 10 1/2 weeks out and just now feeling pretty good.

I found I had to relax, work through the hourly pains and be patient. The last thing I wanted to hear was how long it was going to take and it stinks. I am still hormonal as all get out. My ovaries went into a deep sleep and I am managing things with herbs and relaxation exercises.

I know it is not easy, stay on here, read a LOT of posts and know that you will get through this. It;s sometimes scary but these ladies helped me when I thought I was alone. It;s going to be ok. It was a much bigger surgery than I even thought it would be so when they say take it easy I now know they really meant it.

Good luck, feel better, keep posting and rest.
