Major Hair Loss Post-op
Nutrition alone is the answer.
This extreme hairloss is common after anesthsia for many women
more so than men.
This is a common side effect from Anesthesia and I want other women to know this can happen so they aren't as terrified as I was.
I am on one of the top multiples you can take and eat an excellent diet.
Poor nutrition has nothing to do with this situation.

Major Hair Loss Post-op
I was having such bad hairloss that I went to get a cut this am. I told her to leave it long (was down to my but), it now up to my shoulders... OMG! YIKES! A lil panicky. I guess I should have kept cleaning out the brush...

I thought we could edit our posts.
I screwed mine up.
I meant to say nutrition alone is NOT the answer.
Nutrition is not the reason you lose hair after anethesia.
It isn't that simple.

Major Hair Loss Post-op
I was one of the Sisters that lost copious amounts of hair in the first 5 months after my surgery.
I am pleased to say that it grew back.
Question though: The hair that grew back is curly, not straight.
I have always had straight, straight hair - did anyone else have major texture changes?
Is the curliness just something that happens with age, sudden menapause?
Anyone have any experience on this to share?
Thanks!

Hair Loss Hassles
I too have had normal/somewhat more than normal hair loss over the past few years. BUT, since the hyst (May 07) , oh my God! I'm going bald! The hair in the frontal area is soo thin you can see my shinny scalp! If I had only known the extent of the side effects from this surgery I may have thought it through more. I'm gong to the dermo and regular doctor in the coming weeks to check thyroid etc. I pray this train wreak slows down...

Gentle soul, both my mom and sister had chemo and lost their hair.
Both had their hair come in a different texture than it was before.
I do know that can happen.
Wave 2 my heart breaks for you. Consider doing Minoxydil for women.
Maybe a hair loss clinic can help. They have some other therapies.
Also please check your iron levels as well as thyroid. You want your iron normal, not high and not low. Don't wait to be anemic for taking iron.
I am on a prescription iron.
I am 4 weeks and 1 day post op. I am off to see my surgeon today.
I think I am recovered now. We'll see what he says.
God bless you all XOXOXO

Yes and as the one poster a few back suggested, get your thyroid checked as this can be part of the culprit...I never had thyroid problems until after I had surgery in 2002 for a TVT and tubes tied...doc told me the flucuation in hormones can cause the thyroid to not work properly....I have since been on thyroid meds and have to get retested and adjusted every 6 months...but it did dry my hair out and I also seem to see alot of hair I am losing each day, though not as bad, but I would say a little more than normal....maybe worth checking...also not sure, and I would ask the doc, but there is an over-the-counter women's Rogaine that you can buy, if doc thinks it's ok...it is supposed to stunt hair loss and help folicles regenerate therefore some hair will grow back...my 23 year old son is prematurely going bald on the back of his head and this actually stopped further loss and seems to be growing some back....I have not tried the women's but if it gets that bad I would...just a thought

Don't Tie Hair back
One other suggestion girls.
If you can help from wearing your hair in a pony tail
it would be a good idea if you are having post-surgery hair loss.
I had worn a scrunchie for most of my recovery and lost massive amoumts of hair.
This is conjecture but since Sat when I lost the most I have stopped wearing a pony tail and my abnormal hair loss has seemed to stop.
I also prayed and thank God for this subsiding.
I was scared spitless.
So if possible try not to put tension on the roots with pony tails.

Very good point Lisa....ponytails put much more stress on the hair root with the pulling action and stress of hours being pulled back....also can cause alot of breakage mid shaft

I am so glad I am not alone. my hair has been falling out a lot. I had it long until 2 weeks ago when I got it cropped above my shoulders. It is sooo thin!!!
Gentle soul, my hair fell out quite a bit after having my kids and it grew back in curly. I used to have quite curly hair as a child, but as I grew it came in straight, maybe due to the weight of it being so long.
