Two weeks post hysterectomy: Hard, tender lumps under incision sites?

Hi Sisters!
I will be 14 days post op tomorrow. I had the sutures removed a week ago from my incisions. Two of the three are doing well and the scabs are healing. The third one split open the day after suture removal and has steri strips on it now. It looks really good. Appears to be staying closed and isn't bleeding or oozing. What has me concerned is under my two side incisions (belly button one is fine), I have developed hard lumps that can be felt through the skin. They aren't red or discolored at all, but are VERY tender. Clothing rubbing against them is painful. Are these lumps part of the muscles healing? How long do they stay tender like this? Anyone else have this happen?

Re: Two weeks post op: Hard, tender lumps under incision sites?

It would be best if you have your doctor have a look at them. It could simply be scar tissue or it could be some fluid accumulating under the skin. Only your doctor will be able to tell the difference. Please keep us posted.

Re: Two weeks post op: Hard, tender lumps under incision sites?

Hopefully just scar tissue, but as Danni says, please be sure to ask your doctor about it in case there is something else going on. If it IS scar tissue, then light rubbing or massaging can help to break up it up, but you have to be careful about the incisions. I waited until I was 10 weeks out before going for a medical massage, but boy it sure has helped me!

Re: Two weeks post op: Hard, tender lumps under incision sites?

I had the same thing happen and it is the body's process of absorbing the suture material...That is what my dr told me. I didnt really do anything to them and about 9-12 weeks post op they started to go down and now are just like my skin. I did have a small issue with all the sutures that were used in my cuff, they didnt dissolve as they should have and had to be literally removed. OUCH! My one external incision still has a point in it, so I am assuming is hardened as well and will push itself out one day.
