Pain after 2 wk post op appt

Hi all!

I have a question and wonder if anyone else has had this same experience... I am a little over 2 weeks post op... had a TVH... ovaries and fallopian tubes were saved. Cervix and, of course, uterus removed.

Wednesday I had my 2 week post op appt to see how things were going... I did mention the smell... that there was a slight odor so my MD wanted to do a pelvic and examine me... she said that my vaginal cuff was healing fine and that she could see the stiches and no infection was apparent...

well... now before I saw her, my pain was starting to decrease... after my appt... my pain has increased, and it is in a different area. It's almost right across the top of my pelvic bone and it hurts all the time. The pain I had previously was more inside the top of my vagina.

Now... she did poke and prod just a little and she was gentle... it didn't hurt at the time... but the pain I'm experiencing now is not good... I am still taking Lortab... I was on Dilaudid po post op... since percocet did nothing for my pain.

Has anyone had this experience? Any thoughts? If this pain continues throughout the weekend.. Im calling her on Monday.

Thanks,
Lisa

Hi (((Lisa)))

That sounds like a good idea. It's always best to report any new pain to your doctor. Did you end up having a pelvic exam? Perhaps that area is a little tender from your exam? Hope you find an answer soon!

Re: Pain after 2 wk post op appt

Thanks so much for your reply!

I;m going to call my dr. tomorrow... she did do a pelvic and examined the internal stitches, I just can't believe I'm still sore from it... she was gentle too...

No bleeding or discharge, so that's good... I just worry with all the talk of adhesions, etc...

Thanks again,
Lisa

Lisa,

This is a really dumb question, but by any chance did you have to push really hard to have a BM before or after your appointment? I remember I had to push hard for a BM a day or so before my 4 week post-op appointment and I was sore right where you are describing. I was not sore from my internal exam from my doctor. He is very gentle so I lucked out with finding him.

Re: Pain after 2 wk post op appt

No... not a dumb question at all!!

And yes.. I've had to strain to have bowel movements... I'm scared to strain too much, but, geez... it's got to come out (if you know what I mean! lol)

She also told me not to use Milk of Magnesia since it's a laxative and to use a stool softener instread... and ya, I'm an RN so I understand... but the stool softeneres don't give me the urge to go... which it seems like I've lost that urge!

How much straining is too much?

Re: Pain after 2 wk post op appt

I am not sure how much is too much. LOL. All I know when I do strain too much I notice I have some spots of blood (maybe 4 - 10 little spots) in the toliet after a BM. I have a vaginal cuff so I am thinking the spotting is from that. I had to really strain Friday to have a BM because when I am at work I can not leave to go to the bathroom and I noticed some spotting. It could very be from that because if you ever notice that when you do push hard you can feel it in your lower abs and pelvic area.

But to be safe than sorry I would call your doctor if you are still sore tomorrow. Good luck
