HRT or not, and follow up appt what do I ask

I submitted this once, but obviously did something wrong as I received no replies and can't find it under search. Trying again. My f/u appt is on thurs am. I am 7 weeks PO for TAH, BSO for treatment of ovarian mass/fibroids/endo, elevated CA125 and to rule out ovarian cancer. No cancer- YAY. My dr has a good rep for her surgical skills but is very short on talking and answering questions. My main thing is whether I should be taking HRT. I have a lot of cancer in my family (dif kinds, first gen) and several breast and ovarian cancers (not first generation). I am 44. she did not prescribe anything yet, nor have we had a conversation about it. So far I am feeling but tolerating side effects of menopause, however I have been pretty sheltered being out of work and not having to deal with annoying people much. I anticipate that coming to a crashing halt soon. I see that many people start right away. When is ideal, what is taken into consideration? Are the natural ones still in my system? Will menopause symptoms get worse over time or is this as bad as it gets? Should I be having my estrogen tested now as no blood work has been done since I left the hospital. How do I know what type to start with, much less the dosage. Honestly, at this moment I would be fine going without if it wasn't for the long term effects of early menapause (bone loss, brain fog, heart issues, parkinsons (also in family). I have no idea what to expect, what to ask etc and don't feel like my questions will be answered by my dr.

I have zero answers for you - but I'm hopeful that some women with a similar cancer history as your family has as well as some of those with HRT experience can ring in.

One thing I would suggest is to write down your questions and take them with you to the appointment, so that you don't forget! And if your doctor tries to rush you, make sure you inform her you are concerned, with your family history of cancer, of getting the right information so you can make an informed decision.
