belly overhang facing surgery

I'm scheduled for surgery Jan 26th. I've been losing weight over the past two years and now have significant belly skin and fat tissue heading for my knees. Of course it hangs over the area where my surgeon says she will have to cut for my hysterectomy. My primary care physican says I'm not ready for a tummy tuck - and I agree, I still have additional weight to lose - but I am wondering how others are being advised about post-op care of the incision and discomfort.

Re: belly overhang facing surgery

I have belly overhang...it's not loose skin, it's fat, and it's not MUCH...but it definitely hangs over where the incision will be. Mine is because I've had three c-sections already.

Post 3rd c-section it did pose a bit of a recovery risk as it kept getting moist and having a yeast infection. I was just told to pat it dry after my showers, use a cream as needed, and keep the area as dry as possible. Other than that, it really posed no risk.

I've heard to use your panty liner pads over your incision this way it will absorb any moisture and keep your skin separated

Re: belly overhang facing surgery

I used blow dryer over my incision. It kept everything moist free. I have to go in again Jan 12 for the TAH I was suppose to have on Oct 20, and I plan on using a blow dryer again to keep everything dry. I will have a vertical incision this time. Oct 20, I had a horizontal incision which my belly did hang down abit.

Best of Luck

Re: belly overhang facing surgery

use blow drier to dry skin under the belly "Pooch". I have extra skin there too, so I have done this since having surgery. I had Laparscopic but wanted to make sure to keep all my belly skin happy post op.

Then for discomfort get the swelly belly or abdominal binder from the store here. I got the cheaper abdominal binder and OMG relief from the pulling feeling!!!!
