UTIs??? anyone else??

I had leukocytes in urine before surgery, had another bout 2 weeks post op, at post op appt. had leukocytes but dr. did not give me anything, now at 7 weeks here we go again. I have pressure, burning, frequency, etc. She called in meds because we are in the middle of winter storm and she is 40 mins. away. Is this normal??? Anyone else had this issue?? Got utis before surgery because I wore pads 2-3 weeks out of month. Thought it would get better. Laura

Re: UTIs??? anyone else??

I had this same problem and have had antibioptics two times in six weeks since surgery. I am beginning to think that this is another problem and am going to an urinologist (a referral from my own doctor) as he thinks that I may be right about this being possibly cystitis and there may be something else that is causing the UTI's.

Re: UTIs??? anyone else??

Like you ladies, I had several post op urinary tract infections which required several courses of antibiotics. Still have issues with peeing - sometimes can't do any when I go othertimes have to get up several times during the night. Good luck getting that sorted.

Re: UTIs??? anyone else??

Hi ladies,
I too suffered from UTI's like every couple weeks since surgery which was last March. I was beginning to regret the surgery because of so many UTI's. I was on antibiotics and while taking the medication it seemed to help, then after two or three weeks off the antibiotics it would come back. It ended up being a resistant e-coli infection and I had to be on IV antibiotics for a couple weeks. That was just last month and so far I have not had a UTI since so hopefully that fixed my problem.

It might be something to suggest your doctor look into if you have chronic re-current UTI's.

LAPage -

You also may want to add some probiotics to your diet since antibiotics kill off good and bad bacteria. This can leave you more open to infections so it becomes a nasty circle.

Re: UTIs??? anyone else??

I have one now. I was diagnosed with it 5 days after surgery. I've had them before and felt better within a day, I don't now. Fever is gone, but I have a weird feeling when I go. Can't explain it, creepy feeling. Can't fully empty my bladder, in fact I was estatic how normal urination was, and now it sucks!

Re: UTIs??? anyone else??

Some of us end up with a UTI following surgery because of the catheter. I think mine was three weeks after my hysterectomy. Also, we may not be drinking enough to keep us hydrated and our system flushed. Other things to consider are hormonal issues and a weakened immune system.

in there!

Re: UTIs??? anyone else??

Yeah I was in the ER Tues night cause I spiked a temp. I saw the supply of Foleys and cursed them out! My
mom thought I was nuts. Then my discharge sheet had a list of UTI triggers and I said " hey you didn't mention foley catheters.". The nurse smiled.
