How odd is this?

My TAH is July 24, 2009. I have known about this date for over a week now. My Pre-Op appointment with the hospital is scheduled for July 23 at 12:45 p.m. less than 12 hours before I have to report to the hospital. How odd is it to have a Pre-Op appointment that close to having the actual hysterectomy?

Re: How odd is this?

I think it's a little unusual. My pre-op appt. was a week before.

Re: How odd is this?

My 'pre-op', if you will (bloodwork, etc...), occurred the day of my procedure.

Re: How odd is this?

Mine was two days before but I've heard ladies who had theirs the day of. As long as the blood work comes back before your surgery it's OK. Good Luck! This surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself. After suffering for a year-I feel amazing!

Re: How odd is this?

Mine was two days before I thought it was strange too and asked. They said it was the procedure of the hospital and I guess they do not mind canelling a surgery due to bloodwork. It seems if it was well before they can correct it or something.....?

Re: How odd is this?

I'm in the same boat, my pre-op is at 3:10 PM on 8/4 (they originally tried to schedule in the AM of 8/4 but I'd rather just leave work and be gone from there on out so I requested the afternoon app't since they were scheduling it just one day in advance). My Pre-admit is at 5:00 PM 8/4 and I'm scheduled to be at the castle at 5:45 AM 8/5.

I FAX my questions to my gyn's nurse and she calls me with the answers...my intent is to reduce walking in to my pre-op app't with a 4 page list of questions that may postpone surgery depending on the answers. On the upside, I won't have a lot of time to fret about the surgery after the pre-op app't!

As long as the nurse continues to communicate with me regarding my FAX'ed questions, I'm comfortable with the timing.

Re: How odd is this?

My pre-op was the same as yours. I was at the hospital at 1 pm and surgery was the next day at 10.

Re: How odd is this?

Normal procedure for our hospital here is Pre op the day before surgery. Only reason mine was 3 days before was Friday pre op for surgery Monday.

Re: How odd is this?

Hi,

My pre-op was in a different building Monday morning and my surgery was at the hosiptal the Tuesday morning. I had to be at the hosiptal 2 hrs before my surgery time. All the best to you and remember to rest, rest, and rest some more. Take care.
