Re: Inpatient versus 23hr observation ??

My doc said that I'll be there "23 hours" -- but it's not a technical 23 hours. He said it's likely I'll go home by noon the next day after surgery.

Re: Inpatient versus 23hr observation ??

Yes, we gladly paid the $250.00 copay per day, for a total of $500.00.

I just feel like I could have gone home at the 23 hours, since I was doing just fine.

I wish I had been more mindful of the added costs of staying.

Re: Inpatient versus 23hr observation ??

My surgery was scheduled for 12:30pm Wednesday but I didn't even get in there until probably closer to 4pm as the one before me went long.

I saw the doc around 9am Thursday morning and he said to unhook me from everything and as soon as I could pee on my own, I was free to go. I left around 11:30am. So I didn't need the full 23 hours either.

Re: Inpatient versus 23hr observation ??

Like AKFLYER, I also had a laparoscopic gallbladder removal and we had the 23 hour observation.

The surgery was not complicated and then they apologized since they were all filled up and didn't have any "normal rooms"....with 2 beds, etc. They asked if would mind if they upgraded me. No! I said

I wound up in a room where typically the rich and famous stay (no extra charge)! I was able to eat whenever I want and ordered from a fancy menu. They had 2 flat screen tvs in the room and a computer too! There was even a leather couch and that unfolded into an extra bed!

Leave?, They had to drag me out of that room!!!

(I had a wonderful and caring surgeon and I wouldn not be surprised if he had a hand in that)

I hope you have a very good experience and get great care.
