Hysterectomy while taking Suboxone. Anyone else?

Hi Sisters.
I was scheduled today for a laparoscopic hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries on 5/29/13. I'm nearly 60; have had abnormal paps for 10 years with multiple past attempts at taming my unruly cervix. To no avail, she remains stubbornly abnormal but no cancer yet, Thank God.
So my sis who is an OB GYN has been recommending I have a hyst for over 6 years. My doc has said anytime you're done with the every 6 month paps and yearly (or more) colposcopies, we can do a lap hyst.
One very big reason I have put it off is fear of pain control issues. For those who don't know, Suboxone is an opiate used to treat opiate addiction (and in my case, depression too). I've been on maintenance dose for 4 years. I take 3 mg which is a low dose.
I'm looking for some experience, strength and hope from any women who have faced hysterectomy while using Suboxone.
My doc is savvy about it. The anesthesiologist called me this afternoon right after my surgery was scheduled to explain our options for my pain control. Both my gyn and the anesthesiologist are comfortable working with suboxone patients and they think they'll be able to control my pain reasonably well. I of course am praying they can!
I hope there are others out there who have done this. I will be very very grateful to her your stories, both good and bad.
TIA

Re: Hysterectomy while taking Suboxone. Anyone else?

Hi Gathering1 I am very familier with suboxone, I have been through 3 different raelatives using suboxone, the most recent being my son. We have wondered how he will have to deal with dental work that is needed while he is on suboxone, but he is just going to wait it out. The reason I am replying to your post is to suggest possibly speaking with whomever you are getting treated by about a shot they have recently started using instead of suboxone. It was offered to my son but he decided to go with the suboxone. He attends substance abuse meetings regulary and I do know some of the patients have chosen the shot. I think its a once a month shot, I do not recall the name of it but if you would like me to ask my son tomorrow I could do that. You are on a very low dose however, none of my relatives were ever kept on a maintenance dose, within 6 months to a year they were all gradually reduced in the amounts they took and weaned off of it. Good luck and let us know how you do.
