Having a rough night

Hi all........
Dunno what in the world is up tonight but, can't get to sleep for the crazy hot flashes. I will almost fall asleep then look out, even though its like 17 degrees here in southern Illinois, I feel like I am getting ready to step on the sun. Ok not that bad, just bad enough to not be able to sleep. My dog is looking at me as if he were saying "what is your problem lady, turn off the TV and go to sleep." What do you guys do on those bad nights?

Visit here of course.... I remember telling someone I saw more late night TV post surgery for 2 wks than in my entire life time...
That being said, it does get better...

Having a rough night

I know exactly how you feel. Today at work I felt like going out into the 17 degree weather and ripping off my shirt. Too bad I work at a credit union driveup. Can't imagine the phone calls that would have resulted. Maybe we should try a bowl of water next to the bed and just dip a washcloth in it to use as a compress. As you can see, I haven't figured this one out either.

Having a rough night

If it's not the hot flashes, it's the aches and pains that come and go just from surgery. I had both last night. So not cool!

I first try to turn over and go back to sleep. Failing that, potty break and change nightie and read for a bit. Sometimes a snack for some motrin is in order. I have to take an antihistamine every day, so can't really take any of the "PM" meds that are out there. By the time I wake up, I'm not usually hot anymore. Just sweaty and freezing!

Having a rough night

It helps if you sleep with your laptop and can log on to this website whenever you can't sleep. I have started keeping my iPod next to my bed to help me relax when I have one of those weird nights. I also keep a blanket on the couch so I can head downstairs and watch tv while I attempt to fall asleep.

How about streaking through the snow? That would do the trick?

I am an Illinois girl.....fell in love in Orland Park.

Having a rough night

I had the bowl & the wet rag by my bed. Then I had the electric blanket on my couch. I went from freezing to burning up. I watched TV. It seems the night takes forever when you can't sleep. Best wishes it gets better soon!

Im with principal, nakie snow streaking. If that dont work then take some of those freezer packs, wrap them in towels and lay them in the bed with you. Under your pillows or along your side. I loved mine. I keep about 4 in the freezer. if I get hot flashes I get sick. They make me vomit like mad and I get confused. So for me getting hot sucks. And I live in Fla. Im not looking forward to summer. Hopefully I can go back to diving. 30 ft down the water is like 75-70. Oh yeah. New sport. Nakie scuba. But my luck Id scare the fish lol.

Having a rough night

Sleeping in the buff on top of the covers with a couple of pillows works for me... sometimes I even have a fan blowing on me. DH is shivering next to me with all the blankets, etc. but hey, whatever works, huh?

I'm only sleeping about 3-3.5 hours at a time, with lots of trips to the bathroom and intermittent tossing and turning, mixed with covers on, covers off, covers on, covers off, sweat, shiver, sweat, shiver... you know the drill.

I feel your pain, girlfriend! Hopefully this doesn't last forever!

Having a rough night

I run my bedroom celing fan all year long up here in the cold Chicago suburbs. When my hot flashes were especially bad, I would of course finally fall asleep just before I had to get up for work. I asked to switch my schedule so that I could start an hour later, and that helped me a lot.
