Help!! When can I sleep on my side?

Can anyone tell me how long after their hysterectomy were they able to sleep on their side? I had an abdominal hysterectomy and I am soooo tired of laying on my back!!....thanks

Re: Help!!

I had a TAH and was able to sleep on my side with pillows to support my belly and one up against my back at 3 weeks. As long as I had the pillows it helped. Each night got a little better.

Re: Help!!

I had the vaginal Davinci hysto 13 days ago and I slept on my side this morning for a few hours. Supported my belly with a pillow but otherwise it was alright. This was left side I couldn't even think of laying on my right side. Right side is where all my pain is.

I'm not sure on the abdominal hysterectomy when you might feel comfortable on your side. I hope you heal soon!

Re: Help!!

It took me about 3 weeks to be able to sleep on my side with a pillow propped under me. I too am a side sleeper and was so uncomfortable the first few weeks. Now I notice I sleep half on my back and half on my side now... guess I got used to it!

Re: Help!!

I had an LSH and only took about 4 days - I was miserable until that point.

Re: Help!! When can I sleep on my side?

I had a tah on 7/26 my incision is from my navel to the top of my hairline. I am 3 wks post op today. I started sleeping on my side around 2 1/2 wks post op and like everyone else who posted I needed a pillow. I am aslo a side sleeper and the days prior to my being able to sleep on my side was plain torture!!

Re: Help!! When can I sleep on my side?

Glad to hear that there is light at the end of the tunnel to sleep on my side. My incision is horizontal from hip to hip and sleeping on my side is not an option yet, just hurts too much.

Re: Help!! When can I sleep on my side?

I had a TAH 7/20 and a repair on 7/21 and am just now starting to sleep on my side with pillow support and I have found that a pillow between my knees helped a lot to. I hope you can get to sleeping on your side soon. Good Luck!!

Re: Help!! When can I sleep on my side?

Janet, I had a TAH on July 14. Bikini cut as well. The belly binder I got was a life saver. It holds things in place and makes it much easier to sleep on your side. I was about 10 days out when I slept on my side. I still wear the binder at night and like Anika, I put a pillow between my knees. Works well. Good luck, feel better.
