going up and down stairs

Why are you not to do stairs? Can you seriously harm yourself or is it a balance thing? I have been sleeping downstairs since I got home and its been 1 week and 2 days since my FAH!

I was allowed to do the stairs from the very beginning. Dr. said it was okay as long as I only used the stairs a couple of times a day. I don't think you can harm yourself; I think doctors caution patients about stairs because of the danger of falling, especially if you are still on pain meds. Call your doctor if you want to be sure, but it's probably fine to use stairs now. Just go slowly.

I too, was able to do stairs from the beginning, just just not too much in one day... I am lucky because my room, kitchen, and living room are all upstairs. I only went down stairs when I need to leave the house...

The morning I left the hospital my MD told me I could do stairs. It may have to do with the type of surgery you had.

My doc never mentioned stairs. We have a bonus room upstairs where I sew and our computers are. I believe I was 4 days post op that I tried the stairs. I only did about 5 to start with then later tried all of them...about 20. Going up was easier than coming down. I waited about a day before I tried it again. Now, 13 days post op, I have no trouble with the stairs. I still take it slow though.

I had daVinci and my doc told me I could use stairs from day one as long as someone was with me for the first 2 days in case I became weak or dizzy. I had my surgery on the 27th and use them frequently every day without any pain or problems.

It must all just depend on the doctor and what exactly you had done/how extensive and also age/health.
