4 days post-hysterectomy: not much of an appetite - what are you eating?

I'm 4 days post op TAH minus 1 ovary. It had cysts so the doc took it. What kinds of foods are you eating? I'm mostly eating soup, soft sandwiches, fruit, and water. I dont have much of an appetite, but I'm really huge from swelling

Re: what are you eating?

I munched at crackers throughout the day in the first week.
That got my appetite going.
Also ginger cookies and ginger tea is good to get the appetite going also.
And make sure to eat bland food so its easy for your stomach to digest foods. And also yogurt and probiotics help your digestive system too.
Hope this helps

Re: what are you eating?

I didn't have much of an appetite either. I also ate plain Greek yogurt with fresh fruit. It really helps out the digestive system. I will be three weeks out on Tuesday and I have my appetite back. Good luck with your recovery.

Smoothies! That about all I wanted for a few weeks after surgery. I'm 3 months out and still don't really want to eat much, but I attribute that to the case of shingles that I just got diagnosed with.

Re: what are you eating?

I ate jello, fruit cups, Greek yogurt, crackers, and Fiber One bars mainly at first. Once I started eating a bit more, I ate green salads with grilled chicken and some soup. For breakfast, some mini-wheats cereal or oatmeal with fruit. Lots of water, some ginger ale. And peppermint tea is good for gas. Good luck with your recovery.

Re: what are you eating?

I was so bloated (I guess?) the first few days after surgery, I couldn't eat more than maybe 3 bites of anything because I would get so full I couldn't stand it. Even water made me uncomfortably full. So what little bit I did eat, I tried to focus on a bit of meat and fruit/veggies, just to get some nutrition. I remember my first day out of the hospital, all I could eat was 3/4 of a chicken finger. I ate a lot of frozen fruit, too, because it was so soothing. Frozen grapes and blueberries were my favorites.

You have been given lots of good suggestions. Be sure to continue to drink lots and try to add some fiber to keep away the constipation.

on your continued recovery.

Honey, it is good to see you. I am so sorry about the shingles . . . they can be rough. Be sure to eat enough to keep your strength up so your body can fight this. Remember, even after 3 months (that is hard to believe) you still need to take care of you.

Love to you

Re: 4 days post-hysterectomy: not much of an appetite - what are you eating?

It's not only what you eat, it's how much and when. The first week I lived on fresh fruit, yogurt, peanut butter on whole grain toast and canned lentil soup. I found that frequent "snacks" worked better than regular-sized meals. I might have some yogurt, then a couple of hours later a banana, then a couple of hours later an apple, then a couple of hours later some toast with peanut butter. Don't give your system too much to work on at once.

Swelling isn't related to how much you do or don't eat or how much you weigh. It's because your tissues have been traumatized and are swollen. Like when you twist an ankle, your ankle swells. The swelling *will* eventually go away, but it may take some weeks.
