Those that CHOOSE no HRT

I am curious who out there COULD take HRT but choose not to.... and are in their (or were) early to mid 30's.... Or am I crazy thinking there are those who choose this route?

I had a hysterectomy on Oct.7th, 2010...
Severe bleeding, cysts, endo, ovarian cancer in family. I was progressively getting worse which seemed like each period. Which where getting so random!

Anyways... doc put me on HRT... I was ok with that... I did not have time to research THAT end of things before surgery.
But I really have a hard time believing I HAVE to be on HRT.... but maybe I am wrong. It just seems like there are women out there living just fantastic lives who CAN NOT be on HRT's at all.... so why do I? Doc said something about bone density.... can't I take vitamins that will help me there? I mean what do the women who can't do HRT do about bone density?

I think my HRT is causing weight gain... or at least water retention... I am not 100% sure... I am also have a low thyroid which I HAVE been on meds for... but rethinking that too... I just think docs push to many drugs now days....

So looking for some input from women who are young-ish and choose no HRT.... Did anyone start and then stop?

I have had no symptoms...maybe a lil warm at times.... but I also was baking and moving around a lot. I already have insomnia issues.... I had more night sweats before hyster... (I am certain my ovaries were shutting down already) I started taking Estroven Max. strength about 1.5 weeks ago... along with calcium/magnesium. OH along with Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar! I took it before for sore throats and things like that.... but I read on here that it's good for hot flashes.
I already cut my HRT dose in half, about a week ago. (I know tisk tisk)

Look forward to any input or advise. Thanks. =)

-Angela (33 years young)

Re: Those that CHOOSE no HRT

I am 32. I am not taking any hormone replacements.

I have had some hot flashes. A little insomnia at times. I had night sweats for about six weeks but those have gone away.

I am taking Calcium Citrate, Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin E, Prenatal Vitamins. Sometimes at night I take Melatonin. I drink Braggs ACV in my juice every morning.

Re: Those that CHOOSE no HRT

Sorry, I posted before I was finished.

Yoga and other activity will help with bone density. My doctor recommended being active for at least one hour per day, taking multiple types of calcium (alternating daily or weekly) and having bone density screenings in 6 mths to a year from now.

I feel more balanced and "normal" without HRT.

Re: Those that CHOOSE no HRT

Hello there. I am thirty-six and no HRT for me. I started the patch immediately after my surgery as the OBGYN made me feel as if though my head would blow off if I didn't. I had my surgery Dec 09 and did the patch for six months. After reading up on it and conversing with my Naturalist Doctor I decided against it. I see no difference for myself as far as the way I feel about myself. I gained twenty pounds and of course the doc said it was not from the patch. I just know the weight is gone now. Funny you should bring up the Apple Cider...I take it before every meal and at night before going to bed. I take it for stomach issues in water, but whatever works. As I mentioned I have other health issues I am dealing with and I have basically given up on the Medical World and went Naturalist with more positive results. I do take supplements...one has Magnesium, Calcium and Vit D. I think the major issue is making sure your bones are kept healthy and strong.

Hope this helps you out. Take Care

Re: Those that CHOOSE no HRT

I was only 43 when I had a total hysterectomy. PLEASE read the book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause" by John Lee, MD. It was my life saver. He is the "pioneer of progesterone". Doctors learn about estrogen, testosterone in med school, but not progesterone & Dr. Lee says it is THE most important of all hormones. As we age, we lose our progesterone due to environmental issues such as air pollution, food preservatives, etc., but natural Progesterone Cream restores this one hormone. It is something our body needs and already makes, and it's not chemically made in a lab, it is plant based and bioidentical to our bodies. It is calming, helps me sleep, evens out moods, NO HOT FLASHES, even helps my skin. I can't tell enough people how great this is. Please read the book. I actually know 2 women who could not get pregnant until they read the book (same title but for pre-menopause) and did the protocol he suggests for getting pregnant. Both women now call their kids "progesterone babies". Your doctor will MOST LIKELY tell you NOT to do progesterone, but remember that they are MEDICAL doctors, hence their belief in "medicine", which includes HRT.

Re: Those that CHOOSE no HRT

thank you ladies! Great info! I feel so much better about my desire to not go with HRT. I did forget to mention exercise! Though I haven't been consistent, I know it's important and need to get my rear in gear again.

hello Im also 33 & my surgery was May 2010. my dr put me on hrt but it made my migraines worse so I stopped taking it. Ive had horrible hell flames, hot flashes lol, at night & a few during the day, but Id rather have those than a migraine. I havent noticed a severe change in my personality since quitting hrt Im just a lil more outspoken lol. I dnt take anythng for bone density just a regular multi-vitamin. Re: Those that CHOOSE no HRT

Thank you Brooktini. Did you wean yourself off or just go cold turkey? You should try Estroven for hot flashes and night sweats. I take the maximum strength but have heard there is one called Estroven PM?? really good for hot flashes and night sweats and insomnia. Migraines are horrid aren't they!?

Re: Those that CHOOSE no HRT

I just went cold turkey girl. I tried estroven & they also make my migraines worse. I hate them Ive been getting them since I hit puberty & now my kid gets them too since shes started her cycle. Personally I thnk its the worse kind of pain to be in, my hyst surgery pain wasnt as bad as a migraine to me anyway.
