TAH scheduled, but no pre-op visits set up
I have my surgery on Oct.1st. I was told to come by the office and sign a paper before going to hospital two days before my surgery for my pre- op. Have not been told any of this and not gotten any pamplet... Should I call them or just wait till I go by the office to sign paper????

TAH scheduled, but no pre-op visits set up
I too got a packet with information about bowel prep, preregistration, clear diet, hospital information and what to expect before, during and after surgery. I signed consent forms at my presurgery counselling session but my packet includes a form to take when I get my pre-op lab work done. The lab is supposed to call and schedule that with me. It really does help to have all of the info in advance - it helps me feel a little more prepared. Also, my 6 week check up is already scheduled.
I don't know why all doctors don't have a prepared packet to hand out. It makes sense to inform the patient and this way it's all together and I don't have to call the doctor's office with every question.

Believe me, I intend to recommend an informational packet as an idea.

TAH scheduled, but no pre-op visits set up
I got information from my DR, and the hospital called to set up the Pre-Op and gave me more information prior to my surgery--with instructions to call the DR or hospital with any questions I might have. Even though some of the stuff was slightly different, a call to my DR and a conversation with the nurse helped a lot. The DR told me EVERYTHING he planned and even what he might need to do IF, when he got in, there was anything else that didn't show up on the tests (including the possiblility of having to switch from LAVH to TAH). I even got instructions from the hospital on how to clean myself the night before/day of my surgery.
Yes I did check online for as much info as I could, and found hystersisters to be the most well-rounded, helpful sight, as it also put into perspective the total picture from sisters who have gone through all of it.
The checkpoints are great, and probably prove more beneficial than anything I got from the DR or hospital.

Fudge... Definately call your doctor!! We are hyster twins, we have ours on the same date!!
On Sept 29 I have my pre-op with the doctor AND with the hospital. I'm suppose to have a chest x-ray and blood drawn then.
I feel like I'm running out of time too...

Yes, if you haven't received pre-op orders, please call your doctor! There are all sorts of medications and herbs that you can't take during the weeks leading up to your surgery. Plus, I have heard nightmare stories about problems relating to not doing bowel prep.

The pre-op pack from my Dr. definitely helped my mental preparation for the surgery. The instructions were detailed. The Pre-Op Instructions had bowel prep and diet notes, preop blood work order , what to take to hospital . The Post-Op instructions were especially helpful with very detailed notes on managing pain, constipation, caring for incision, nourishment, Dr's emergency cell # and situations to contact him at this #, postop appointment dates etc
Yes, definitely call your doctor's office and get the pack/preop setup at least 1-2 weeks prior to surgery.

The one real piece of information I wish I had had BEFORE my surgery was THIS WEBSITE URL!!! Thank goodness I found it AFTER my surgery!! You ladies have been my sanity-savers post-op!! It is truly frightening to hear all these vastly different variations on what we've been told for pre-op instructions!!
