Arthritis after hysterectomy?

I had a total hysterectomy in February of this year.
It seems like I still do not have the energy I used to have nor do I have any stamina at all. I also lost my job in February and am wondering if I will be able to hold up when I do find a new job.
One thing that is really bothering me is that I have started having bad joint pain this past month. It started out with just one hand being sore, then it seems like it spread to my hips, both hands and shoulders. There is arthritis in my family, but I had not had any pain before the surgery. I was wondering if this was related or just coincidence....
I feel like such a whiner going to the doctor about this. Usually I have no health problems....
Could this be arthritis?
This all is just so depressing. My friends that have had hysterectomies all feel wonderful after theirs. I do not feel like the same person.
I am on hormone replacement therapy......
Thanks for your help.

Re: Arthritis after hysterectomy?

I had my hysterectomy six days before you, and about a month and a half ago, I also started having joint pain and tired all the time. After much research, I realized that the combination of the diuretic I've taken for years and my HRT patch that I started following hysterectomy were depleting my magnesium. I started taking a magnesium supplement at night and feel lots better. As a side benefit, it also relieved the constipation problem I've had for a long time! As always, check with your doc before starting anything new, but it really did help me.

Hi earthtomel~

This is a great question for your doctor. Perhaps your estrogen needs tweaking? Joint pain is not uncommon after hysterectomy. Take care!

Re: Arthritis after hysterectomy?

Thank you both!!
I have an appointment on Monday.
I am also dead tired too......Hope she can find out what is going on.
Most everyone tells me a hysterectomy is the best thing they ever did.
In some ways it is, and I am hoping I can say that one day.

Re: Arthritis after hysterectomy?

Hi Earthtomel -

I also lost my job in February. I had my surgery March 16- TVH with the works posterior and anterior repair. I thought I would never be able to go back to work, mostly because I lost my confidence. (I am in busness to business sales) But I found a job and just told myself to buck up sister and fake it till you make it. I have been working since the end of May and so far so good. After the first week it seemed like I never left the workforce.
I am also having joint pain primarily in my shoulders. I am taking HRT estrogen and testosterone.
