4 months post hysterectomy (Nov 2015) The dreaded pouch.. does it ever go away?

I feel like I'm just about recovered from my surgery which was about 4 months ago. However I'm left with this weird lumpy bit that runs along above my incision. I don't think it's 'swelly belly' because its quite a particular area (and I'm pretty sure my expanded waistline is thanks to a poor diet and lack of exercise!), and my stomach muscles weren't cut during surgery so I know it's nothing to do with that.

There is the bump of my stomach, the crease line, and then this odd pouch/pooch/swelling between the crease and my incision. I was slim prior to surgery and this area was flat. I'm not someone who obsesses over my figure but I did like that I was slim and could wear tight fitting clothes when I wanted to... now I feel somewhat self-conscious (even though it's probably hardly obvious to other people).

I've just started getting some manual lymph drainage massage to see if that helps, but I would love to hear from others who had this and if it goes away! I guess I don't mind waiting but I have no idea of timeframe and I'm getting a bit despondent... I knew I'd have to put up with a scar (which doesn't bother me at all) but this bump is unexpected :-(

Re: The dreaded pouch.. does it ever go away?

Hello,

I had my surgery two weeks before you and I still have this hard ridge above my incision. Doctor told me it was adherences and to massage it with oil. I do it since January, but I'm not sure it's changing... I should have taken pictures to see the if it's improving.

I'm really fit but had surgery for a 18 cm fibroid making me look 26 months pregnant, so I now have a flatter belly, even with this bump.

I think I will just get used to it...

I'm just 6 weeks post op, feeling big as a house with giant swelly belly- could swear it wasn't this bad yesterday.
To see you guys talking about one spot or area is pretty encouraging!

Re: The dreaded pouch.. does it ever go away?

I hope I don't have to get used to it... it feels like it shouldn't be there and there seem to be lots of people out there who don't get this problem :-(

What oil do you use to massage it? I have an appt with my gyn but that's not till mid-April; right now I'm going to a massage therapist, hopefully that will make a difference...

I hope too!

I use Bio-oil, it's supposed to help with scars as well.

Re: The dreaded pouch.. does it ever go away?

Hi there, I too have a significant ledge above my incision that I HATE. I did find a post on here dated 9-13-2004 by Silverfern where she says that hers went away eventually.
