no fibroids, but adenomyosis

Hi Ladies -

My ultrasound came back today and there was no indication on fibroids, but a possibility of adenomyosis. Of course, my doctor is on vacation, and won't be back until next week, and then there is a holiday coming up...it is always something, isn't it?

When I went in for a pelvic, I thought she had palpated some fibroids, and from what I understand, the US doesn't always show them...am I correct?

I decided to make an appt. with a surgeon that we are lucky to have in town, so I will get another pelvic tomorrow and he can look at the US.

I guess my question for all of you is...

1. is there anyone similar to me in this diagnosis, and if so, what treatment did you end up having?

2. what questions do I need to have in my arsenal for tomorrow's appointment?

3. is it worth it to get a pelvic MRI? I am not sure at this point what my insurance will cover.

Some other pertinent info:
I am 42 and I have regular but awful periods...heavy, clotting, etc; I have a child, but she is adopted and I have never given birth; I am scared of surgery and all the down time; I am also in contact with someone who does UFE, and he told me that the procedure was only about 50% effective.

I think that about covers it.

Thanks in advance,
Katie

no fibroids, but adenomyosis

Hi there,

I suspected that I had adnemyosis after 3 ultrasounds, 1 sonohistogram and 2 opinions. I pushed for the MRI so that I could get as certain as possible before having surgery (never had children and didn't want to have a hysterectomy unless it was necessary). The MRI was invaluable - gave me a better sense of what was going on. They confirmed diagnosis after a TAH. 7 weeks post op, I feel 1000% better (previous symptoms were pain, excess bleeding, swelling, etc.). I'm glad I had the MRI. It helped me be comfortable with the decision to go ahead with surgery.
