Surgery date moved up

Hello Everyone! I am a 30 year old married Mother of 2, and have endometriosis, and PID. I was diagnosed via laprascopic surgery just in November. Dr says the best option for pain relief is a Hysterectomy. I don't know proper terms, but he will take my uterus and tubes because of how badly infected they are. I was trying to hold off for a bit since I just had surgery in November, but ever since then my periods are more horrible than they were and I have now in the past week been experiencing constant pain and cramping accompanied by almost a constant feeling of naseua. Went to my dr to talk to him and get checked, and he says cysts are forming back and my organs are starting to stick back together. I need surgery ASAP, to have any relief. I am so nervous to go through another surgery so soon, and worry if it will truly relieve my symptoms for good! I'm also concerned about hospital stay, recovery time and post-op feelings!

Hi tfmf3113 to HysterSisters!

I am sorry you are going through all of this. Is your surgeon an endo specialist? From this site, I understand that a hysterectomy will not cure endo, and that you need a specialist to remove the disease.

The length of hospital stay depends on what type of surgery you are having, and if there are any complications. I think for your surgery type it is typical to stay overnight.

Recovery is different for everyone, and depends on a wide variety of factors. However, you need to think in terms of weeks, not days. Make sure you take enough time of work - you may need 3, 4 or even 6 weeks depending on your recovery and your job. You will need plenty of help at home with cooking, cleaning, dishes, driving, shopping, etc.

Post-op (and pre-op) can be intensely emotional. I several times before my surgery and many more times after. It can be a very difficult time mentally and emotionally. It took a long time to slowly wind out of it.

Always know that you are not alone - we are here to help and support you. You may also want to post in the Endo Support Forum.

I know exactly what u are going through! I've had 2 surgeries in the past 7 yrs because og my endo. The most recent was 2 yrs ago. I decided to have my dr take everything since I didn't want to have to go through it again! My endo was VERY bad. It had my colon stuck to my uterus & even if we wanted to save my ovaries...wasn't going to happen. They were also all tangled up. This surgery was 100 x's better recovering than my laproscopic surgeries. I'm sooo glad I did it & I wish I did it yrs ago!

Now I'm just waiting to see what I should in terms of hormone therapy. Not sure what to do since my mom was on hormones for yrs & developed breast cancer & then had massive heart attack. Was everything related...who knows???

I wish u the best & hope everything goes well :-)

Re: Surgery date moved up

Spoke to my doctor, who is a specialist in my situation. It will be a same day procedure, but a 3-4 week recovery period. Im about two weeks out, and have been feeling terrible and starting to get nervous!
