Does anybody else have mini veins?
I'm a notorious (per my husband) not drinker of enough fluids anyway. I'll really have to work at this ): Half my weight!?! Oh gosh, sounds near to impossible, but I'll give it a try and call them tomorrow, plus now on Tuesday on scheduled for pre-op testing (more blood work). I was hoping to reschedule the donation for Tuesday night, now I'm afraid the hospital will be leaving me with holes in my arm and the blood center won't want to try. Wednesday will be one week before, I think that's too close.
Can't wait for this all to be over...
Thanks for all your advice!

I'll be trying again too. Just noticed you're from Sebastian. My in-laws just returned to NJ today from Sebastian (they're "snow birds").

Does anybody else have mini veins?
I have no veins at all, it's not that they're small, it's that they're terribly terribly deep!
When Baby came in Septemer, I'd had enough early labor problems that all my good spots were bruised (all, HA! I have two good spots, both in the crook of my arms). I left the hospital w/ a new baby and 16, I am not kidding, 16 'stick spot' bruises. My husband asked the doctor to write a note so that should anybody ask, he had not beat me up! I have pictures, it's incredible.
The one person in that hospital who was finally able to get a good line was an anethiesiologist who, by sure luck and coincidence, was also the one working on me during my TVH. He knew I was coming ahead of time and was there to do the IV instead of trusting it to a nurse. Fortunately, as I hadn't been poked and prodded much in the weeks leading up to the procedure, as I had w/ baby, and he got it on the second try.
Be sure they know you that you're a tough stick before you go in and they'll have thier best "Vampire" on hand to help you when it comes time. It's good advice to get as hydrated as you can too!

Yay!! I tried again today (after drinking TONS of water) and it worked!!! The Blood Bank called in their resident "experts." They were waiting for me! Got a little light-headed when I got home, but it's evening and I can rest, no problem.

I also have always had "bad" veins. My first surgery, it took 10 tries to get an IV in and then I partially woke up in surgery since it was not delivering enough anesthesia. Hydratin does help a lot, as well as a warm cloth on the back of the hand (for a stick attempt there).

I have the same problem. Hate giving blood. The last time I went the doctor used a very small needle with a tube attached to it - says it is meant for babies. This was a big help. When I had my operation I had major bruises from the needles, not attractive. Maybe give the "baby needle" a try.
