Need advise and help
Hi:
I have a few questions and concerns I hope someone can help me with.
I'm 19 years old and am having some problems with my period.
I didn't start taking the bcp until I was 17 and shortly thereafter became active with my boyfriend. From the very beginning intercourse was painful.
I have also had colon problems since around the age of 13. Take something every night to have bm. Mom has same problems.
My problems seem to have gotten worse over the last 6 months. I always spot for a few days after intercourse (still painful also). Almost feels like boyfriend is hitting something that moves. Have been on two separate types of bcp. Didn't help. Pain in right side sometimes with bm. (if rough day)
Last Thursday I went to a new ob/gyn and she said that my female organs seem to be on top of or crowded with my colon. Wants me to have a pelvic ultrasound and possibly a colonoscopy. I told her about the bm problem then and that I already see a gastro doc. She also changed my bcp to Jasmine. Said to start taking it Thrusday and not to take the sugar pill. Take pills for 8 weeks (no sugar pills) so I will not have a period. Started my period today anyway. Really dark.
She also asked did I want a family in the future. She really scared me pretty bad. My mom is flipping out. I'm an only child and I have a great mom, but she really worries like crazy. She had a hyst 3 years ago due to tilted uterus. Her symptoms started with painful intercourse and a little spotting just after.
I'm really scared. I can't help but think the worse. Have any of you ever had this type of experience? Test? This is kinda hard to talk to my friends about. Most 19 year olds don't seem to have these problems.
The colonoscopy scares me too. My step dad is on post op chemo for rectal cancer. Found by this test. He is cancer free, thank GOD.....
Anyway, thanks for listening. It's been really hard trying to find info about any of this together on the net. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Need advise and help
Hey...
I'm 21, and have had problems since I was 12, so I understand. I have severe IBS which isn't helped by my bad periods and I know how awful the pain, bleeding, and 'poo' problems can be.
If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you HAVE to take control of your own healthcare - if your doctor intimidates you, absolutely don't hesitate to make an appointment with another, just to see what they say.
There are many, many things that can cause pain and spotting, and there are sooo many things that can be done besides a hysterectomy. The ultrasound and colonoscopy are a good start. Ultrasound is easy... sometimes they do it vaginally but it's still no biggie besides a little embarassment maybe. Colonoscopy is a little more invasive, but the 'cleaning out' before the procedure is the worst of it. I've been through both a couple times and as long as you don't let yourself get worked up, it goes alright.
I just can't stress enough that you are your own person, and your health history isn't necessarily the same as your mom's, so don't panic. If there's anything, you just have to keep yourself calm and rational about your health. It's hard when there's so much to think and learn about, but ultimately it's your own body and the decisions are all yours. Don't be afraid to see another doctor - or ten other doctors - it is VERY rare that someone our age should ABSOLUTELY need a hysterectomy.
Feel free to PM or IM me if you want to talk, I've been through just about everything short of a hysterectomy myself at this point so I can help explain things!
