How long do American sisters stay in hospital for a TAH?

I'm just curious. My specialist told me that I will have to stay in for a week but so many girls on these boards seem to come out of hospital really quickly. Is it something to do with your medical insurance? I was just wondering.

I fortunately have medical insurance so will be going into a private hospital which I am glad about. I suppose that were I going into a state/National Health hospital it would be less, but some of the American sisters seem to be out so quickly!

My insurance only allowed 2 full days for a tah. I went in on a tues and came home on Thursday.

I have medical insurance <Oops! No insurance names please>, and pay $100 a day for a semi-private room. I go in 6AM Tuesday morning for 9AM surgery, leave on Thursday afternoon. Total cost, $300. If the doctor feels I am not well enough to go home, I will stay another day or two at $100 each. This is really reasonable for co-pay having insurance. Last year I had a different insurance company's policy <Oops! No insurance names please> and paid over $1500 for a (benign) breast lump removal, outpatient. Besides having bumpy boobs and an ugly uterus, I have rheumatoid arthritis and am on Social Security Disability, so my insurance is a Medicare replacement plan. I really like the <Oops! No insurance names please>insurance, the best I've had yet.

I'm having a LSH/BSO and I was approved for 3 days in the hospital. I probably won't need that many, but it's nice to know I could stay if I need to! I've already met my deductible and out-of-pocket for the year, so my LSH won't cost me another dime! YEA!!

I was in 5 days with a LAVH...only one day extra as I had a fever. My doctors were quite conservative. It sure was good to get home though!

I went in to the hospital at 1:00pm on a tuesday, surgery was at 3pm..I was able to pass gas and eat "real"food and go home thursday afternoon...the dr said If i wasnt able to do those things I would be staying another day or two, till I did... I wasnt rushed at all..
But thankfully I was able to do what I needed to and go home to my Bed ! Good luck!

I am not sure what all the initials mean on this website but I am having an abdominal hysterectomy but keeping my ovaries and cervix. I did not check with my insurance but my doctor said I will be in the hospital for 4 days.

If you're having an abdominal surgery but keeping cervix and ovaries, you're having what's called a supracervical abdominal hysterectomy, or SAH. The abbreviations are rather overwhelming sometimes.

I stayed three nights in the after my surgery. Honestly, I could have used another night or so in the hospital... so I think you should consider yourself lucky! However, it's possible you'll be home sooner than a week if things go well. to you.

It really is insurance mandated.
I have a $1,000 deductable and after that is met I pay 10 % . My hospital stay was ok'd for two days. Which would have been the day of surgery and one day after. But I lost alot of blood and had a hard time passing gas so I was in for an additional 2 days. The doc said "don't worry they have to have his ok not theirs" and he was right the insurance said not a problem.
Insurance is highway robbery but you need to have it.. We pay $500
a month through our employer, but I know other companies that you only pay $10 a month with no deductable. I don't get it...
I also know that alot of people would love to have the coverage I have, so I shouldn't complain.

I was only in the hospital one night. I think that the length of stay has a lot to do with insurance coverage as well as the type of hyst being done. I also think that what the dr tells the insurance company affects how long the insurance will approve.
