I'm sooooooooo sorry
Darnit! In the midst of a whole buncha, I totally forgot to come in here and change my date of surgery. It's been pushed back to June 4th. First there was something about a paper the hospital said I had to sign (that included a 30-day wait period after signing before surgery could be done). The surgery itself has been 'approved'. What this paper was apparently for was that I understood (despite being 50 and having had a tubal in 1984) I was never EVER going to *really be able to have another child. Um... duh? Yes, I understand. Now take it out, please! Well, so. Canceled everything -- surgery, blood work (for cross/type/match, which has to be done between 48 and 72 hours prior to surgery); I did go to my pre-op. It was only the next day they let me know about the whole 'paper-needs-signing thing, whoops our bad' thing. THEN, last Friday I get email from my gyn's nurse tell me she's "working" on it. Meaning, getting the 30 days waived, etc. I'm all..... come on. I can't keep having my DH and family members put in for and then unrequest time off... and that we should just keep the 6/4 date. But then on Monday evening I got another call from her telling me someone else managed to 'fix' it, and I don't even have to sign the paper now. Grrrrrrrrr. A day late and a dollar short... for many reasons. Again, I simply retained the 6/4 date. The pre-op and blood work are again already scheduled.
I look at it as divine intervention, actually. I was fighting off a cold. Isn't it funny how that works? I tell ya! For the seven months I'd been bleeding something almost every day I was healthy as a horse! Then, I get to have a hyst and........ my body revolts? Wuz up wit dat? Maybe it's telling me something. I last saw my gyn on 4/8 and less than two days later I stopped bleeding. Totally. About two weeks later I had a very light period for about 5 days. Then I stopped bleeding again, totally. Given my age (50), I've truly been wondering if my body has just needed time to heal from the D&C and the EA. Then again, I have three fibroids that were growing (according to comparisons on last two Ultrasounds).. AND a prolapsing uterus.
Friends.... I'm wondering if I should see what continues to happen through the 16th of this month. And then, if I'm still bloodless and/or even have another light period, email my gyn and ask what he thinks. Another ultrasound -- could I be heading into menopause and the fibroids are possibly drying up, etc? Yes, I still have crampy feelings almost daily but not often, for long, or very painful at all. Yes, I still once in a while get a mild twinge from the cyst on my left ovary. I'm assuming my uterus is still prolapsing.
Do I wait-n-see or really, given everything --everything I've been through, and I really don't know the future-- just go ahead and have the hyst and be done with any future wonderings (like, will I again someday maybe have a gusher out of the blue? when can I stop wearing pads almost daily, since I still do because I just don't *know?, etc.). There is a joke (or a myth, ha) that if the body 'knows' it's going to have major surgery, it 'behaves'. Then you cancel, and it acts up again. Hmm.
Hope you've all been well!

heavensent57,
I cant tell you not to have the surgery, but from the other posts I have seen here, there are lots of other women your age and older that still have the hysterctomies due to problems now, and possibly in the future. This is something you probably want to discuss with your DH and DR....
I know from my experience I had a horrible time before my hysterctomy, then after my date was set, I actually felt good for about a week before. (BUT only a week)....
From your post you said you also have a prolapsed uterus, and I would probably want to go ahead and do the surgery even if its to fix that. But again that is your decision.....
Anyways, good luck with your decision you choose and remember that everyone on this site will be here for you, and here for you to talk to and voice your concerns........
PS.......didnt mean anything about your age, because girl I am climbing up there!!!!I think we get better and wiser as we age!!!!!

Hi Heavenscent57,
It is a tough decision isn't it? If only we had crystal balls or some divination to give us a clue. The only thing I can warn about for your consideration is the prolapsing uterus. My sister suffered from complete, and yes, I mean complete, everything, bladder, rectum, EVERYTHING, prolapse. Like it was all kinda falling out if you know what I mean. :smilie5:
So... That would be one of the major questions I would ask my physician. The chances of that happening. It is not pleasant when it gets to that stage. Plus, if your uterus is still prolapsing, what effect is it having on your bladder, etc.? Just some long term concerns with consequences that require surgery anyway.
Good luck and prayers. {{{Hugs}}} to you!!

I'm sooooooooo sorry
Well, between the fibroids and the prolapse, my daily/nightly trips to the bathroom have way increased in the last year, especially, noticed my DH, in the last six months. So, I am leaning towards just get it all out. I don't want to deal with "why didn't I JUST..??" months or years down the road.

Hi Beci,
Just dropping by to lend you a little support on your decision. I know that our bodies are really good tricksters sometimes. Definitely get in to talk to your dr about this. You two will come up with the best decision together for your situation. I went thru two surgery consultations with my gyn. And if your DH hasn't been to dr with you, I would suggest that he go in as well.
I know it really helped my DH with understanding how serious my problem really was, and that this wasn't going to be a walk in the park. I would need time to recoop.
Menopause can help with the fibroids, but I don't think it's going to change anything with the prolapsed uterus.
Good luck with your decision.

Thanks, definitely. I know my gyn tried for a long time (almost the whole seven months I had the AUB and the D&C/EA with him) to NOT have me go the way of a hyst. And it only went that way because of the prolapse. So... I'm thinking if he thought it was bad enough to warrant a hyst.... ok. And my DH has been to just about every appt with me, yes. I'm said it before, I'm deaf. And I bring him along just to be my ears, in case I can't totally understand my gyn (I read lips). There's nothing going on with me that DH doesn't know about.. or our four children. It's all good.

It's nice that you have a great support system. My DH was totally in the dark about my situation. And he has always been one of those 'it can't hurt that bad'. He doesn't like doctors, so the closest I've gotten him to one in the past 11 years has been the lobby. I had to threaten and bribe him to go in. Other family members knew that I was having the surgery, but didn't know why. I also asked them not to visit until about a week after the surgery.
As far as our bodies being tricksters. Aunt Flo had made her visit every 28 days for me since I could remember. The past year was the worst because of the fibroid. I was due the week before surgery. Stayed prepared, but kept waiting, waiting, and waiting. She decided to be a 'no-show'. lol
