Feeling desperate

Last August I went on the waiting list for a TAH due to the fact I had a cantaloupe melon sized fibroid attached to the outside of my uterus plus two others (don't know what size they are) My Consultant said it would be about 5 to 6 months, could be more could be less. Apart from looking like I am 7 months pregnant, am suffering with several symptoms including needing the loo constantly - would love a full nights sleep, constipation, sore hips and now pain in my groin shooting down both legs. I rang the hospital the other day to see how much longer I would be waiting to be told June at the very earliest. They advised me to go back to my doctor and get them to send a letter saying my symptoms are worse and hopefully be bumped up the list (here's hoping). I am also stressing because my son is emigrating to America and will be getting married there at the end of August, so I need to be fit to fly and if I don't have the op till June/July, I will not be able to go .

Sorry to sound sorry for myself. Just needed to moan lol xxx

Re: Feeling desperate

I'd be moaning too if I had to wait that long to get medical treatment. So sorry you are in this situation. I was worried about having to wait five weeks for my surgery after diagnosis, can't imagine waiting nearly a year. Once you wrap your mind around the need for the surgery, no matter what the cause, I think most of us just want to get it over with so we can get on with our lives. I think you are perfectly justified in pushing to get it moved up. You've waited patiently long enough. Sometimes you just have to speak up for yourself to get the care you need and deserve. Good luck to you and hope you enjoy your trip over here!

Does the pain mean the nerve is being compressed or something? That sounds to me like a very good reason to get bumped way up to the top of the list! Hope your doctor can get that for you! Sounds like it is time to be a very squeaky wheel.

Re: Feeling desperate

I kept apologising to the clerk that I was sorry to bother her as I am not a person to make a fuss. But she told me that the people who shout the loudest get the furthest, so I am going to have to be persistent if I am going to get anywhere. May not work, but at least I have tried. Love this site. Loads of support no matter what xxxx

Re: Feeling desperate

Gosh, so sorry you are going through this. Unfortunately , you do have to be persistent & almost pushy at times to get what you deserve. Make sure that all the decision makers ( with regards to surgery scheduling priority) are aware of the severity of your symptoms & how it's affecting your quality of life. Wishing you a great & speedy outcome. Sending positive thoughts & HUGS your way.

Re: Feeling desperate

I had to travel and with serious symptoms was very concerned I couldn't do it, but then I got a pessary and it helped tremendously until I can have my surgery (the 28th!!!). The pessary helps hold up the extra weight of the fibroid, but I don't know if it works if the fibroid is on the outside. Hope your doctor can bump you up the list, but if not hope this information helps. I went from having to go to the bathroom every ten to twenty minutes to every one to two hours. Plus I started on Flomax which for some weird reason helped too and I was able to fly across America with my daughter to watch her receive an award in D.C.

Re: Feeling desperate

Mine is cantaloupe sized too. But I was told this in October and am getting my surgery at the end of this month. I know I'm very lucky though. I don't have to go pee like you are, but sometimes when I make a sudden move or get out of bed or a chair too fast I get this stabbing hot pain in my lower abdomen. I also look 6 months pregnant and its very embarrassing. I can't wait to be done. Good luck in getting it bumped up! It's so sad that being nice doesn't get you anywhere, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. It's been the opposite for me. The nicer I am the better I'm being treated!
