Pain Medication at Home after TVH
I Just wanted to wish you good luck on your Upcoming Surgery. As far as Pain Meds for home after Surgery, I think it all depends on your Doctor and what Works and dont Work for you! I was on Percocet, Oxycontin, Vicoprofen, Lortab, Just to name a few. NOt all at once! I had 3 Surgeries last year and One this year so far. Im home Recovering right now! My Advice to you would be to speak with your Doctor before your Surgery and let her know her concerns. And if your Doctor will give you your Script before your Surgery that is also good so you dont have to worry about stopping on your way home the day yu get out of the Hospita. Keep hanging here and reading and asking Questions, THis site is Wonderful and so are all the Ladies here. Best of Luck to you!

Pain Medication at Home after TVH
I had a TVH with A&P repairs on 2/13/02 and was prescribed percocet to take at home. But.... I never had them filled. I didn't like the way percocet made me feel in the hospital so I took 800mg Motrin every 6 hours for about the first week then I gradually extended the time between doses. It was probably about 3 1/2 weeks before I stopped taking the Motrin altogether.
I hope this helps you but remember that everybody responds differently to medications. I didn't like the percocet because it made me feel as if I was on speed. My heart felt like it was going to beat out of my chest and I had bad dreams when I finally could go to sleep.

Pain Medication at Home after TVH
I took ibuprofen 800 twice a day for three days when I came home from the castle. Never had the stronger stuff filled! I was very fortunate pain wise, felt so much better than I had felt prior to surgery. I hope that you have a similar experience!

Please try not to take Motrin for too long, as it can cause a bad case of stomach inflamation, or chronic gastritis (meaning inflamation). That happened to me after my lap in 2000 and I used Motrin as my pain med. Ended up in hospital with severe inflamation of the stomach lining. No Motrin for me now. If you use Motrin, ask your doctor how long it is safe to use before it starts hurting your stomach lining. I use oxycontin and Lortab now.

Meds
Let me wish you a speedy recovery!
I had my TVH...etc., done on 3/15/02. I am on Hydrocodone (Vicodin) every 4 hours and ibuprofin every 6 hours. Seems to work out well for me. I didn't want a med that messed with my mind too much. Vicodin doesn't make me drowsy or anything, so I like it. Its totally up to the individual.

I was just diagnosed with mild antral gastritis. Is this what you had? I am having upper abdominal pain that radiates into my back under my right shoulder blade. I also was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. My Dr. put me on Nexium and is waiting for H.Pylori biopsy results. Just wondering if you could tell me a little about your symptoms and experience. I been on this med. 6 dyas and no releif. Infact it seems a little worse...I was wondering if it is just more painful, because of the biopsy.
Thanks for any insight! I haven't known anyone else with this problem.

Pain Medication at Home after TVH
Hi, sorry you are suffering so. Glad they are getting down to the bottom of your problem. I don't think you should be feeling worse on the medication so I would report that to your doctor. It does usually take a couple weeks to kick in and start helping. I had very bad inflamation/gastritis and hiatial hernia too. I sent you a private email with my experience. If the medication doesn't start to help in a couple weeks they may need to increase your dose or even try another medication. Since you are still waiting on some results that may yeild more answers and you may need an extra medication to heal. Best wishes and God bless.

Pain Medication at Home after TVH
I've had nothing but over-the-counter Ibuprofin since I came home 4 days ago. I take it as needed, but haven't needed much.
