Another question HRT

Hello:

Will they put me on hormone replacements ASAP, or do they make you wait?? Also I've been reading a lot of message about sending you home with a cath in you, is that true and why?? I've had so many problems with periods and pain for 20 years...I started my period when I was 9 I'm 43...I have 3 fibroid tumors that they will also remove, they are taking everything...I wanted them to leave my ovaries but he said "NO" as my Aunt just found out she has overian cancer and it said it would be safer to take them...I'm not sure tho...Plus I've had many cysts on my ovaries and 6 Laps to remove them...in 1991 they took out 1/2 of my right ovary...I will find out more when I see the Doctor on 12/10...

Thank you for your help...

Julie

Another question HRT

Every DR is different. Some start HRT immediately, other wait for a couple of weeks, if there is endo they may wait for several months to make sure it is gone.

The body stores up hormones. I wasn't started on HRT until 2 weeks after surgery. My DR prefers to wait til the body's stores are depleted so that there isn't an increase and then a drop when it's gone. I am taking Estrace 1mg/day, that's the original dose, I've had no problems with hot flashes, etc.

I think most of the time someone goes home with a catheter is because they had some type of bladder repairs done in addition to the hyst. Usually it is taken out within 24 hours after surgery.

Best wishes!

Another question HRT

Hi Julie, 9 years old - you poor baby! I was 1 day short of 13 and wasn't near being ready for it. I had a tah/bso in July and was started on hrt the day after surgery. I had a catheter for 1 day (I usually hate them but loved it in this case because it meant that I didn't have to get up for a whole day). My ovaries were removed because of a family hystory also but I'm 10 years older than you. Each dr & person is different and I'm sure you'll discuss all when you go in for your appointment. Best wishes and please keep us posted .

To: MaryLou & Jean:

Thank you both very much for answering my questions...I guess I'm just worried about the Hot flashes, mood swings, etc...:bigcry..

You both put my mind at rest....I had Acid refulx surgey last year and if anyone can go though that this should be easy...I could not eat FOOD for 6 months, only liq's....I no longer have the ability to throw-up or burp so no POP for me....

I will ask my doctor about the HRT on December 10th when I see him again....He said I will only be in the hospital for 3 nights, I should be home by December 30....

I wish you both well...

Another question HRT

Hi Julie - I am wondering the same thing about HRT and ERT. I am trying to figure out the differences between synthetic and natural - and ot learn enough about hormone replacement to talk sensibly to my DR. I have decided to have ovaries removed, but fear the surgical menopause. I just don't know what to expect.

Another question HRT

HI!! On top of all the surg and recovery, I did not want to deal with menopausal symptoms too. I researched it, and made my choice before surg, and took presrip to castle. I started on day 2, and have been on since. Knock on wood, I have done very well, and feel great!

Good Luck!
