Home from hospital, two days later...

Wanted to let everyone know that I am home from the hospital after having a hysterectomy on Monday, April 9, 2012. The doctor did a good job, even though he encountered a problem as he was taking out the uterus and fibroids. The largest fibroid was along the uterus wall and huge. Apparently the Lupron I was taken shrank it a little but it almost took over the uterus. The problem he encountered was accidently nicking the bladder. He was able to repair it but as a result I am wearing a cath for the next week.

I will be seeing him next Tuesday so he can take the staples out, so hopefully he will relieve me of the cath. I also had surprise...not sure if it was because of the surgery or if I was already, but I was diagnosed as a diabetic. As long as I follow a diet and food plan, I can control it and I will see my doctor next Monday.

I am doing ok...sore and not getting around very easily, but I am getting around slowly. I had walked several times while at the hospital and yesterday (April 10) I finally passed gas...many times during the day. Have not yet had a BM...but I am sure I soon will. I have been drinking plenty of water. Should I be taken Miralax or something like that? I have four prescriptions that were given to me. An antibiotic, Oxicoton, some meds for the diabetes, and Motrin.

I was able to keep my cervix and ovaries... which i am glad. My DH and father are happy I am home. DH is relieved that everything went ok, despite the problems and has stepped up to take care of me. He has been great and I love him for doing has to be done. My father has been great also, but is letting DH take the lead.

So that is my update ans sorry it is so long....took me a while to post and had a lot to say. Thank you hystersisters for the help and I look forward to continuing....

Welcome to the other side...the worst is over and hopefully you'll have a speedy recovery!!! Did your doc say to take the Miralax? You'll definitely want to get things moving and regular down there as soon as possible, it'll make you feel much better! :-)

A strong support system is essential and I am happy you have the support. Make sure to tak e this time to rest as much as possible and don't do too much! Ask your doctor before taking the Miralax, but don't let the BM issues go too long! I hope that everything is uphill from here!
