vaginal burning (7wks post op) tah bso

I went to my six week check up and the doctor said everything was ok except there were a few spots of tissue on the vaginal cuff that had not healed correctly and he used some silver nitrate to cauterize those areas. He told me to wait another week to resume intercourse. I also returned to work (40 hrs/wk) and now I feel like I have taken 2 steps backwards in the healing process. I first thought it was my bladder but I realize that the burning is coming from the internal vaginal area. At times, it feels like everything is going to fall out
I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with this and how long I can expect to be dealing with this. I am trying not to regret having the surgery, but I thought I would be feeling better by now. I am beginning to get a little depressed about the whole sex issue. I had a great sex life before and it makes me sad to think that my husband and I will not be able to have that level of intimacy again.

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated !!

I understand how you feel about wanting to feel better. I had a TVH, BSO, AP Repair and TOT sling on 01/12/10 so we're almost the same time frame post op. I have not had the issue of cauterization, but I did return to work at 6 weeks post op and like you feel like I've gone backwards. I was given a note not to work more than 4 hours unless I felt up to it, but ended up working virtually 40 hours as well. I would come home with swelly belly (that I didn't have before), cramping and back pain. My doctor told me it's my body's way of telling me I'm overdoing it and I neede to put my foot down about working less hours (easier said than done). That note from my physician runs out this Wednesday, and right now she won't write another one because she can't understand why I would still be in pain. I do not regret having the surgery, but am angry that my doctor doesn't seem to be listening. I, too, thought I would feel better so you are not alone. My doctor did tell me it takes 6 months to heal. The sex part is frustrating. My doctor also told me that she stitched me a little tighter than she likes (sorry if TMI) and if we had problems I need to let her know. Gee thanks! I wasn't relesed until 7 weeks, and we are taking it slow. DH is worried about hurting me. even though it may take some time, I think we'll get back to where we were before if not better. Sometimes the fun is in getting there. Someone posted on here that they were going to start with a date night with their husband. I thought that sounded like a great idea. Just make sure you have KY available in case you need it and take it slow. I understand how you feel. HUGS!!!

Thanks for sharing your story. All along I have felt very frustrated with my doctor for not preparing me for the complications that could arise. I feel like I can deal with anything, just be up front with me and let me know what to look for. When you do experience something and you are not sure the cause it only causes you to worry even more !! Just like what I am currently experiencing. It is so uncomfortable, no matter if I am sitting or standing. If I knew this was something that was going to pass in a day or so, I could deal with that.

I am just feeling so frustrated lately. It's just really hard to face the day tomorrow knowing I have to stand nearly 10-11 hrs on my feet, my clothes don't fit, my back will be hurting and not to mention that I look like I am 3-4 months pregnant and I am burning down there. Sorry to sound like a baby, I guess this is just a good outlet for me. My husband is very sweet and has been very patient, but I know he is ready for me to get back to normal as well.

I so feel your frustration. I agree that I wish my doctor would have prepared me more for this. I work in the medical field, so I think they sometimes think I know more than I do so it's frustrating. I can't imagine having to be on my feet. Sitting doesn't work well either. I tried to put on dress pants today and finally changed after about 4 hours because it was killing my abdomen. I refuse to go buy bigger clothes . I know what you mean about looking like you're pregnant. I told my husband that by night it's hard to tell where by breasts end and my abdomen begins. I've always had a belly, but this is way more than that. It is nice that we have understanding and patient husbands, and I know no one wants to be normal more than we do. Now I'm having hip pain again that I had after surgery.

I hope you survived going back to work. I know we'll get better. Hang in there.

ukcats2009 -

Sorry to hear that you feel as if your Dr. didn't prepare you for things.

Here's an article from the post-op forum on Silver Nitrate - Granularization .

As Joining4Support said it takes time to heal. When the Drs say you will be released for things they are talking initial recovery (6 to 8 weeks usually). Full healing takes 6 months to a year.

Try to stay positive you are still early in your recovery.
