morcelator freaking me out

Hi, first post here.
I am having da vinci on the 29th, for a large ( uterus 5 month size ) fast growing fibroid. It was explained to me that this can be done laprscopicly by this morcelator chunking everything up and sucking it out. I guess I am picturing this mixer thing inside me. Then There are questions about the mri images, some atypical things, so they sent me to a oncologist gyn, and he said they are usually just fibroids, he did a uterus pap, and that result was okay, but how do they do a biopsi with the davinci? Its my understanding that a biopsi must be done first, that the morcelator thing cannot be used if the biopsi comes back with cancer, so they must have to do it before using that thing.
that thing.
See how it is freaking me out.
I didnt think I would be elegible for the lap surgery because of the size of my uterus, but the morcelator allows it. I do want to go with it because it is a faster recovery time.

Re: morcelator freaking me out

Yeah the whole morcelator thing is kinda gross. BUT if it allows us to have a simpler recovery I think it is worth it. I don't know if it makes you feel any better but they put the tissue to be removed in a unbreakable bag first so they are NOTjust going crazy in your pelvis with this tool! I went a bit far and actually watched some surgery videos!

Re: morcelator freaking me out

I watched too, I didnt see any bag, the first one I watched just ended after the uterus was free, I think it was removed vaginally, then I just watched one witha morcelator, and there wasnt any bag, just little claw thing picking up and feeding this thing. i feel better if there is a bag.
I had to wait for surgery because of this thing, I was told the company was behind supplying to hospitals, then later i found out it was because they were recalled, they had a few fall into the patient.
thanks, think I am just nervous and over thinking everything.

Re: morcelator freaking me out

Well since you have already seen some videos maybe you would feel better if you saw some with the bag. Here is a link. These videos are really graphic , they are the real mccoy !
well crap the website won't let me post a link or the website address. but if you search for LIGO hysterectomy videos it will come up.
By the way I am having bilateral dermoid cyst removal on friday and I am freaked too! The doc wanted to do RALVH- bso but I resisted.

Re: morcelator freaking me out

Oh thank you! I was so worried I was the only one who actually WANTED to watch the videos. Not some cheesy animation stuff either, but the actual surgery. I like to know exactly what I'm getting myself into and have been told I am morbid for watching those videos, but I just have to.

Re: morcelator freaking me out

I had a LSH done back in October. They don't grind your uterus up like a meat grinder. It's actually in chunks and can still be tested in the lab. I don't know anything about them putting it in a bag never seen that type of video. But my Dr. told me that it is removed in chunks. That is done so that they can still have it tested. I didn't have the davinci nor did I have it done vaginally. Mine was done through the 3 small incisions. Don't worry you will be fine. I'm doing great no major complications. I am back to exercising and almost to my normal routine.
