When you are short and overweight??

Hi,everyone.I am scheduled for a TAH vs.AVH and I am wondering, if anyone knows if it is more routine for abdominal surgery to be done if you are overweight? Thanks.

When you are short and overweight??

Hi Annette,

My Dr. chose to do an abdominal incision too. He happened to say before the surgery, "It will be relatively easy because you're a thin woman." ---for what it's worth

Good luck and check in often.

When you are short and overweight??

I think the procedure depends more on the internal situation of your body. My MD thought I was a good candidate for a LAVH/BSO until he went in with the scope and saw how large my uterus actually was. He then converted to the TAH/BSO. For what it is worth, I am tall and about 20 lbs. overweight.

Good luck to you!

When you are short and overweight??

Welcome to HysterSisters!! I agree with "WithHope" that it is the internals that matter most as to the type of surgery. I had a TVH/BSO and what my doctor did beforehand was to check on the amount of movement she and I could "get" from my uterus...she pulled and I pushed...and she got enough movement to allow her to do my surgery vaginally.

As you read lots of posts, you will find we are in all sorts of different predictaments before surgery plus doctors have their own techniques. So the combinations are almost endless!

Keep reading, posting and talking everything over with your doctor.

Thanks for replying to my post. The wonderering is what I don't like. I know the DD's probably don't know until they go in. I'll just keep doing things to keep my mind off that, since it will do no good to worry about it.

my uterus was a lot bigger when he went in then my dr. thought it was going to be. he still did the lavh, but it just took him longer than it would have if it were smaller. he did it through a process called morcellation. if you are desiring to do the lavh vs incision, maybe your dr. can explain to you at the pre op what he would do to try to keep it vaginally. i had the lavh and in my opinion, although i am just 17 days post op, my recovery has been easier than my c-secion. good luck.
