Did anyone have this during surgery?

Hello ladies! I am reading one of the books that was recommended here "The Women's Guide To Hysterectomy" by Haas and Puretz. in this book it says that some women have a naso-gastric tube put in during surgery.

Now this has frightened me more than anything else. I absolutely do not want anything down my throat or nose! Has anyone else had to have this or is it an individual thing? Seems silly even as I type this, but I really do not want that.

Right now I am in the phase that the more information I am getting the more frightened I am becoming yet I can't stop reading everything I can get my hands on. Anyone else like this?

Did anyone have this during surgery?

Hi,

I've never heard of anyone having an NG tube during surgery, but I guess on rare occassions, it might be used. Check with your doctor about this.

If you have general anesthesia, you will have an endotracheal tube to help you breath during the surgery itself, but you won't know anything about it as it's placed after you are out and removed before you awaken.

Don't worry, our imaginations always are much worse than the actual events. We have too much time to fret about all the issues before surgery, and after surgery, we always wonder what we were worried about.

s,

Lisa

Thank you Lisa-that has made me feel sooo much better. I'm not too worried about what happens when I'm in surgery-as long as it's done when I'm out!-

Thanks again!......Christine
