Skin around belly button hurts

I am 3 weeks post op today. Yesterday morning, I started to get a sharp almost stabbing pain to the left of my belly button. I don't have any external incisions but it felt like maybe one of the internal stitches was poking me on the inside. No redness, no swelling, and no fever. And the skin is so sensitive and feels kind of like it's sunburned.

I didn't lift anything and I can't imagine what I would've done that over did it. Today it has spread further around my belly button. Even loose clothes seem to drive me crazy.

Does anyone else have this too? Any ideas on what this might be?

Re: Skin around belly button hurts

It could be nerves that are irritated or regenerating on the inside. I would suggest you give your doctor a call and see if he or she can figure it out. Please keep us up to date on how you are doing.

Re: Skin around belly button hurts

I called my doctor yesterday morning and they wanted to see me so they got me in with the only person who could see yesterday - a midwife. Turns out the midwife was one of my best friends growing up but I hadn't seen her since we were kids. Weird huh?

Anyway, she thought it was adhesions, which of course completely freaked me out because my first thought was "oh my gosh, they're going to have to do surgery again." but she said no. She said it was so high it was up in my intestines and as long as I could eat and have a BM, everything was ok.

She prescribed Lidoderm patches, which I knew a friend of the family used because I'd put them on her. The pharmacy said my insurance wouldn't cover them without written consent from the doctor. They sent the form to the doctor's office and told me it could take a few days. So that was a wasted trip.

I called my family's friend who uses them and she had some samples that I could have until my prescription was ready. I went to her house and she put one on me. She said it should work almost immediately. After an hour, the pain hadn't gone away or even eased up a little so I took the patch off.

I did some research on here and the suggestions people had or had been given by their doctors were:
1. Ice
2. Heat
3. Aloe
5. Hydrocortizone

I tried Aloe first it felt really good because it was so cold when I put it on, but I had to keep putting it on and keep putting it on and it only worked for a few minutes. Then I tried ice since the coolness felt good. It numbed it so I didn't really feel anything but as soon as it warmed up, the pain came right back. Today, I'll try the hydrocortizone and/or the heat to see if they work and I'll let you know.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, please let me know!
