Has anyone else had this problem with BM's?
Sorry this may be a little bit TMI, so I apologize now,
I have had a few of my BM's be accompanied (sp) by some blood, not a lot but certianly enough to notice. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I have my follow up on Monday and will be talking to my Dr as well, but want to check with my sista's as well.
Thanks
Stephanie

Are you spotting - the bleeding could be vaginal and if you strain at all with the BM you may see a bit more then.
I didn't notice any rectal bleeding post-op.

I have not had this at all. I am 5 weeks post-op on the 9th... I have had tons of diarrhea, but nothing with blood. I hope you have found the problem by now.

Dr said
Dr said that it was either a hemmroid or a fissure from being constipated and as long as it wasn't all the time no worries and of course since I posted about it, it hasn't happened again

I get fissures from time to time and they're a real pain - no pun intended!
I think they're harder to heal than hemerroids and seem to be aggravated from sitting too long.

Having just had my colonoscopy 2 weeks before my hysterectomy, I am an expert in this dept! If you apply a little vaseline or desitin ointment to your behiney before your sitting session on the porcelain throne, you can avoid aggravating any fissures or hemmorhoids that may result from straining or being constipated. Be careful NOT to get these treatments in your vagina. Use baby wipes or one of those plastic peri-bottles to spray warm water on you after you "go." This minimizes irritation. The end. (No pun intended!)

I had the same problem. My doctor told me to increase the fiber in my diet and drink lots of water. Also, I had to take a fiber con tablet plus a stool softener in the am and pm which really helped to heal the fissure. Believe it or not, I was still in pain up until this past week, not from my TAH- from the fissure. I was told if it didn't heal on its own I would they would have to surgically cut into it somehow! Needless to say, I was very grateful when I finally had a pain free day! I will never take my health (or any bodily function ) for granted again! Hope you are feeling better soon! Oh, I'm not sure how far along in recovery you are, but I also took sitz bath twice a day for about a week or two and that really helped as well. Take Care!

I hadn't thought about vaseline or desitin! Fissures seem to take a looongg time to heal. As soon as I get one I go to twice/day stool softeners and try to avoid sitting for too long anywhere.
