Endo sisters need advice losing ovaries

Hi fellow endometriosis sufferers.
I am scheduled to have a TAH-RSO on August 24th. The left ovary removed in 01 due to endometrioma. I am in a panic about losing this ovary. I know that by keeping it, it surely might cause the disease to continue. But here is the problem, since I have been scheduled I have been reading everything I can about hormones. I just don't quite understand why the ovary has to go if there are things like natural progesterone with can cause the endometrial tissue to shink significantly. Or isn't there a way to make my body think it is pregnant without any extra estrogens like in BCPs From what I am reading endometriosis is the result of estrogen dominance along with immune factors.
So my question is.... has anyone with endo had a hyst. but been able to keep there ovary's and have pain free living? Or am I just looking for things because this surgical menopause thing is just freaking me out. Thanks to anyone with some advice or input

I can't answer your question about keeping the ovary because I had both of mine removed. And, I can't take HRT so I went into surgical menopause immediately. I can tell you in my case, it has not been bad. I am 9 weeks post-op, 42, and have not had a hot flash or any of the other horrible things people talk about. I do have an occasional bout with tossing and turning before falling asleep but it is only sporadic. I think a lot of my good results has to do with the positive attitude I went into it with. I knew that there was no choice - I had to have the ovaries out and I wouldn't be able to take HRT - so I decided that I was going to be one of the lucky ones who didn't suffer any ill effects.

There's a very positive chain over on the No HRT board (No-Hormone Desert Oasis for Menopause Management)...it's called "BSO 10 days ago - no HRT - No symptoms - Will it last?" You might want to take a look at it and see that there are positive results. Maybe it will help with your 'freaking out'...it did with mine prior to the surgery.

Good luck & best wishes!

Thank you luvhouse for you input I am so glad you have come through so well. I hope that I can be a lucky one too. Because if I do lose the remaining ovary I think that I am going to opt to tough it out and not use synthetic HRT. Thank you
