Bending...

Can anyone tell me how many weeks I will have to wait before I can bend down to pick up the hook that I use to tie out the dog when she needs to go? It would be flat on the patio so I'd have to lean over pretty far.

Reason I ask is that even though hubby will be retired and home with me; in the event he gets a new job offer say 3-4 weeks out from my surgery...would I be okay there alone with the dog?

Kind of scared to bring this up with my doctor as he told me (rather sternly) he didn't want me taking care of the dog when I got home, but he didn't say for how long.

I plan on taking hubby for my pre-op visit so the doctor can enforce all I can and cannot do.

BTW, I'm scheduled for an SAH so I know recovery will be longer.

It varies, but I would think the bending down to hook up the dog might be OK by 2 weeks. Is there anyway it could be left on a small table or chair so you don't have to bend so far?

Couldn't you get one of those grabby sticks with the long handle. I had one and it was fantastic for picking things up that were on the floor.

Well, as far as putting something outside to set the hook on, it would probably blow over, but maybe I could put a brick on it or something.

That grabbie thing is a great idea though! My mom has one and I'll borrow hers.

Thanks to you both! :-)

Do you have a place you could place a small hook? Like the one's you hang pot-holders or coffee mugs with. My little sis used one of those when she had her gastric surgery for GERD (5 small incisions). She put a little hook at the top of the hand rail of her porch and hooked the clasp onto that. She had taught her little ****zu to jump on her knees to get the clasp hooked onto her collar. She said it worked really well.

I'm four days out from a LSH. I can sort of bend over to pick something up. I find that if I sit down and then pick something up it reduces the amount of pain I have. You could try putting a sturdy lawn chair next to the area where the dog will be tied up. Sit in that, facing the object, open your legs and bend down over them to tie the dog up. I find if I do this, that I am able to pick up something easier. However, I have to be reminded constantly not to bend over by DH. So, maybe I am not the best person to offer advice!
